Nurgle Soul Grinder counters?
Hey there, really struggling to deal with these guys.

They out range my anti large and crack my formations in a heartbeat. Cav seem to bounce off. ( as a side Lance Demigrifs seems to be much weaker than I remember. Are they a bad unit now?)

Any tips would be appreciated.

Assuming You´re playing empire - they´re a ranged faction, so fighting Nurgle should be little problem for You - except they bring some 18 soul grinders, which will unlikely be the case. (Don´t know if they got any meaningful new units with the DLC)

Else the soulgrinders are decent units, while the nurgle ones are probably the best because of their ranged attack. Basically some usual large target. Focus fire on them, no? Or fight them with a good melee char and duel them down. I can´t say much about melee with other units, as they apparently changed something about collision and splash damage in some patch.

I take a mix of gunpowder, ironsides, long rifles, rockets and hell blasters along with infantry blockers and characters with a bit of mop up cav. All the anti large gets outranged by the grinders and the characters and cav can't occupy them for long either. Focus fire would work if they came into range but they tend to engage at max range and pick me apart while I deal with the rest of the horde.

Have you tried ignoring them?

Sometimes you cant counter a unit, you have to win the battle around them.

Yeah I have, but there is enough weight of fire to burn me out before I can "win" I think part of my problem is the demigriff lancers, 4 is too many for a unit that seems to do nothing against nurgle.

Did they improve that garbage unit? Their projectiles used to be as slow as icey snot, and easy to dodge. Or rather did they improve their shot speed from snot speed?

Lumarnk of Hysh are pretty good at sniping enemy lords and single entity units from decent range, while its not super fast its still pretty nimble and does amazing damage against demons- if it hits.

Yeah... 2 Luminarks will make short work of those Soul Grinders. Nurgle Grinders don't even compare. Nurgles Grinders (From what I remember before their last patch) is that they aren't really that threatening, and mainly an infantry killer if the enemy units are dumb enough to stand in one spot.

Soul Grinders are a disappointment.

Usually I just ignore them till they run out of ammo. Never found them particularly punishing. Usually they just die to army loss without me ever actually engaging them.

Almost any unit in the game can be countered with Lords or heroes. I would just use characters on fast mounts to hunt them down before they have a chance to fire on your infantry or Calvary. Also Death Wizards are great support against single unit monsters or characters because of spirit leech. Also demon units will destroy themselves if you do enough to break their leadership. So for instance a lord and a hero chunking them down with the death wizard casting spirit leech and then doom and darkness to lower their leadership by 16. Once you get them breaking they will be gone fast. That is what I would do. But if you don't want to use single units I would use Calvary to get them firing while trying to dodge until you can reach them and keep them occupied while the rest of your army destroys their army.

You know that you can have a hero who increase range of all gunpowder infantery by 15%? Try to get as many of them as possible. They also stacks. Longrifle with 400+ range can be optained. Aiganst them you can also use steam tank with volley gun, it has shorter range but outmatches the dmg of the grinder.

They patched that, I believe the hero only gives himself the range bonus now. Utterly useless.
The engineer lord can give his entire army a range buff, but that's just 1 character.

right just discovered that, the hero gets 10% more range for his range attacks, and the falconeye skill. No range buff for the whole army of ironsides. Was overpowered anyway. Still steam tank volleygun works well.
Lance Demigryph Knights are anti-infantry. It's the Halberd Demigryph Knights that are anti-large.

Thanks for the tips gents, it was a low exp army so characters weren't and option or at least not a good one. I did find the demigryphs even disappointing against infantry for their top tier status. I think their model count is too low for good charges?
Thrace Jul 12, 2024 @ 3:22am
Still getting absolutely rolled by this Ku'gath soul grinder army. The ror of the halberds can't take a single Grinder in a fight and neither can the ror luminark? I feel completely outmatched. It's not like I'm a complete noob here but it sure feels like it! High tier empire gunline can't even half their force before they engage.

Any other ideas chaps?
