Any tips for micro management?
So I've got quite a few hours in this game now and feel I have a decent understanding of the mechanics and game play for the races that I play. However, my micro management is miserable at best and therefor, late game I tend to struggle against high tier armies, particularly those with a lot of heroes.

Because of my inability to micromanage I tend not to use heroes very often(exception for legendary heroes) and naturally this makes my army composition weaker for the most part, meaning I lose or take far more casualties than I should at times.

So any tips for micro would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Biggest tip, put your melee into one big control group, hit the lock button, right click a roughly central enemy. Your melee will move up in formation and choose enemies to attack on their own and choose new targets as they eliminate enemies if any are close enough. Works better vs crumbling factions then retreating ones. Saves a lot of player micro so you can focus on cav, flyers, and casters.

having a good formation gives you more time to micro

recommend locking your whole army into a formation and hold alt+ then left click where to move it at the start of battle. this makes sure everything keeps formation and doesn't move out of it because of different unit speeds. you can then create groups of units you'd like to micro (usually flanking units and/or heroes). your front line you can usually leave to their own devices once both armies connect and missile row behind will only take small amount of attention to choose targets

not true for every faction of course, some require more micro than others, slaanesh come to mind. if you have a standard army with infantry front and missiles/archers behind then also try and checkerboard it to give your archers better shots on enemies and so it's harder for enemies to tie up multiple units

having a locked formation means most of the time you don't have to babysit as much and can spend more time with flankers/heroes though - keeping the most micro intensive units in groups is good as a general rule

also here's a short video on how to make checkerboard formation if you weren't sure

Pause the battle often and/or use reduced speed

(Yaeh I know this is for noobs, but since I also have my problems with micro ingredients it goes a long way to pause every 30 sec or if I see a unit with 💤)

Play some regular RTS, it helps (Hello Starcraft !) to improve your micro.
For the Hero management, Warcraft 3 was a big + (and no, Dota and alike aren't going to help you in that regard).
