What does "Bracing" do for units without charge defense?
So if 2 Trolls are charging 2 Swordsmen,

One Swordsman unit is holding still and getting the Braced status
The other is counter-charging the Trolls

What's the difference? The counter-charging unit gets its charge bonus too, but it seems like non-braced units still take more damage regardless of not having charge defense.

not 100% sure but I believe it increases units mass a bit

Increases mass so they are harder to knockback, and the formation does not get disrupted so much.

It also makes it MUCH harder for Cavalry to punch through, so they can charge again, and easier to bog down the Cavalry.

Charge effect of opponent is reduced. I think there is hidden mass bonus on it. Collision result is decently changed.

what is "bracing" exactly? Just a unit facing the enemy that's charging? From video's I've seen in past TW games, after many test runs, IT was always best to counter charge a unit charging your unit. Unless you have some formation or "deployable" mechanic like Pike Phalanx or something similar.

What exactly do you need to do to make sure your unit being charged is in "braced" status in order to get a buff that requires being braced.

There is a metal shield on the unit card to indicate it is braced. It needs to not be moving for a certain amount of time, and facing the unit charging them to get the benefit of bracing.

If I recall, bracing became automatic once they removed formations as something you could manually toggle between.

^I think it simply means facing the unit and stationary for a couple of seconds. I think the bracing effect applies automatically under those conditions.
