It's not just WH as far as TW games go. It's a relic of mechanics becoming more complicated and AI being more or less equally dumb. The complex mechanics seem good on paper for the human player but the AI has a hard time dealing with them.

siege was completely fine in Rome 2.

That's definitely an opinion

Sure they still suck. But now they suck in entirely new and interesting ways!

Personally I think the sieges in TWW3 are better than in TWW2, still not as good as in TWR2 but sieges has never really been the strongest aspect in a Total War game, the focus has always been field battles.

Edit: Thanks for the free points.

I agree they were fine. ToB has the best sieges in the series, but no one has played it.

as empire, sieging becomes really awesome. especially since most of the empire's enemies aren't ranged leaning so you blow up all the towers and start shooting the fish in the barrel. this is "fun" i guess but it ends up being their only tactic exacerbating siege fatigue. overall they are really bad but i think worst of all its abuseable as hell. the AI very rarely counter attacks choosing to run aimlessly. in the process losing vigor to fight. :steamfacepalm:

Well it did take them years to get it into an acceptable state. On release it was pretty bad. It might have been the worst out of any game.

I like sieges in Warhammer 3 because I get to attack with two or three armies en masse. I know it's going to be costly, but it's too beautiful a thing to just auto-resolve. It takes a lot of micromanagement, sure, but for me, I love big sieges when I have prepared my forces properly. It would be awesome if we had the mechanic from Pharaoh where we can set beautiful fires. I would love to be able to sack a town and have the local citizens fleeing in all directions too.

There's certainly potential, but the 'pop-up' defence mechanics feel weird. I'd much prefer towers to be pre-existing and the barricades to be the only thing we can build.

I think back on the Empire At War 'sieges' during planetary battles, those were sometimes fun.

...you're creating pointless threads instead of finding a mod that alleviates the issue or just...playing a different game that doesn't make you all rage-y.

I could use a little defensive buddy. I would call him "Defend-O".

And unlike the many, many, many other threads like this he doesn't even state what those issues are :monstertrainhmm:

Only gotten worse. At least 1 and 2 felt like a distinct defender advantage to hold.
