Well it did take them years to get it into an acceptable state. On release it was pretty bad. It might have been the worst out of any game.
There's certainly potential, but the 'pop-up' defence mechanics feel weird. I'd much prefer towers to be pre-existing and the barricades to be the only thing we can build.
I think back on the Empire At War 'sieges' during planetary battles, those were sometimes fun.
