Haven't played them sinc TWW1 but will do a another campaign soon. I had a lot of fun back then, end now they got even more units and mechanics.
But mybe you could elaborate: What exaclty bores you? The campaign? The battles? the roster? The starting postition?
Some races are just not for everyone.
Example, I have no interest in Lizardmen, or Ogres as I find them either boring, or just badly implemented.
Further i recommend not playing helman ghorst or mannfred if you want to have fun, like they arent bad, to the contrary they are very strong, but they are also...really boring early game, like absurdly so. Personally Id recommend trying the Carstein´s if you want to have fun both early and late game as the two provide a more well rounded campaign experience in my opinion
Isabella is the best leader imo, her bonus for vampire heroes and hero cap bonus is crazy, allowing you to get multiple of them on the first turns.
Always get some bloodline lord of the carstein family, they get a unique skill which make bats free of upkeep in their armies, allowing you to reinforce or expands way quicker.
The biggest hurdle i face playing vampires is how everybody else despises you, so be prepared to be declared a war more often.
Ghorst is just ridin dirty with his meatwagon, having a good ole time
I guess, I just found it hilarious. Mannfred is the worst tho, horrible location. In the middle of the desert, surrounded by factions that hate you, ugh.
Ghorst issue is that when your zombies are powerful you need to manually fight every single battle by yourself because auto resolves are not in favor of the zombies.

This is a good video showing some of the problems.
So if someone isn't fond of Vampires melee only units, going with zombies is not gonna make it more fun. It's just a waiting game.
