Trying to hold outposts as the Woodelves serves no purpose. You're supposed to only occupy the trees.
If you picked Orion, going to war reduces your upkeep for each faction you're at war with. Go to war enough and your armies cost 0 upkeep.
Then there's the fact that one of the garrison buildings reduces upkeep for armies in the region of the tree.
Woodelves are a isolationist faction.
and the outpost can boost growth and cash of ya nearby main citys so they are not complete useless (but yeah hard to defend)
2. Wood Elves generate most money by razing cities. While upgrading their trees takes forever. So you don't wait for a large positive income; instead you get into war with bad people and raze all they have.
3. There is a follower to increase underway interception chance, iirc called the Hunting Hound or something. The effect should stack among all your heroes and your lord.
Generally the follower items are very useful, like a stacking leadership debuff to local enemy armies, or very long reinforcement range.
4. Wood Elves have, generally speaking, much stronger armies than other factions. So if you follow point 2 and go very aggressive against the anti-order factions, you can make a lot of friends. Means you can get a high Trade income, and you can always have an ally following you and occupying the razed cities.
GG
Durthu is a genocidal Dwarf levels of angry wood spirit, nobody likes him. :P
She's an Elfetarian and loves doggos, which means she's the best tree lady ever.
Only have turns for Drycha, not Durthu - wipe out Vlad by turn 5.
Or you quickly declare war on another wood elves faction nearby that the other ones doesn't care so much about and wipe them out, take their tree and build up your forces.
Why, when the game allows you to confed with every one of them for free?
Because there is only on Bretonian faction left and you are allied with them.
But i never had problems to be fair, just painted the whole map green
