You can continue your ongoing campaign.
Usually, a game's version is as follows <major | minor | patch | build number > for example 5.0.3.123123.
I only delete and start a new campaign if it's a major or minor update, since those usually cover a lot of changes.
Patches it's whatever, I just hit continue.
That said, many have wished that CA did a better job testing and balancing DLCs and updates so that they could minimize the number of patches to updates that are actually necessary, rather than fixing sloppy implementation and rushed delivery which could have been avoided. Unfortunately, CA prefers to use the community as free product testers. "No patches" and "constant patches" is a false dichotomy pushed primarily by those trying to derail criticism.
That means the previous campaign I was playing has finished.
I don't see why it would be so hard for them to just update the pre patch saves along with the rest of the game. Other studios do it all the time. Maybe it's just something to do with how saves are built but... idk. I ain't a developer.
All I know is trying to 100% one campaign let alone all of them is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare with the way they handle save updates
Plus as always...you can use the previous couple updates still if you go under properties and look in the beta dropdown menu.
I'm not going to say you're wrong to try and finish campaigns, because everyone enjoys different stuff. However, I feel pretty confident in saying (based on most other discussions), that it's far more common to play until turn 60-100ish, and then start a new campaign when it's clear you're unstoppable, even though you haven't actually won.
That has nothing to do with patches, mind you, it's just coincidence that I think very few people are going to identify with a desire to spend enough time to finish a campaign, because most people don't.
My game crashed after the patch, and it seems a lot of people experienced the same thing as their mods failed. Patch 5.01 and 5.02 caused no problems though. At least not for me.
I find the real end goal is to pretty much take over the map. But it seems whenever I get close, a new update drops and it just kinda blows it all out of the water
I really wish they would just update the pre existing saves along with the game itself.
