How does anybody finish a campaign in this game?
Don't get me wrong, I love it and it's always great to have balancing and bug fixes. But it can get really irritating having to restart your whole campaign because of it.

Would be nice if the saves updated with the... well, updates. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

5.0.2 > 5.0.3 is a small update.
You can continue your ongoing campaign.

Usually, a game's version is as follows <major | minor | patch | build number > for example 5.0.3.123123.

I only delete and start a new campaign if it's a major or minor update, since those usually cover a lot of changes.
Patches it's whatever, I just hit continue.

So the patches will take effect in games that started pre-patch? Like the winds of magic always going down and whatnot else listed in the notes?

Is this a trick question? No one finishes TWWH campaigns.

That said, many have wished that CA did a better job testing and balancing DLCs and updates so that they could minimize the number of patches to updates that are actually necessary, rather than fixing sloppy implementation and rushed delivery which could have been avoided. Unfortunately, CA prefers to use the community as free product testers. "No patches" and "constant patches" is a false dichotomy pushed primarily by those trying to derail criticism.

It's easy - I just start a new campaign.
That means the previous campaign I was playing has finished.

Well ♥♥♥♥.

I don't see why it would be so hard for them to just update the pre patch saves along with the rest of the game. Other studios do it all the time. Maybe it's just something to do with how saves are built but... idk. I ain't a developer.

All I know is trying to 100% one campaign let alone all of them is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare with the way they handle save updates

The only time I've ever had an update break a save was when the actual game map changed. If you run mods you may have to wait a day or until the next weekend to have them updated, but the vanilla game itself is pretty forgiving.

Plus as always...you can use the previous couple updates still if you go under properties and look in the beta dropdown menu.

by playing bretonnia and getting the 70+ locations requirement via confederations, hehehe.

I'm not going to say you're wrong to try and finish campaigns, because everyone enjoys different stuff. However, I feel pretty confident in saying (based on most other discussions), that it's far more common to play until turn 60-100ish, and then start a new campaign when it's clear you're unstoppable, even though you haven't actually won.

That has nothing to do with patches, mind you, it's just coincidence that I think very few people are going to identify with a desire to spend enough time to finish a campaign, because most people don't.

I guess my ocd just demands I paint the world as my faction color and then and only then will I consider it a victory.

My game crashed after the patch, and it seems a lot of people experienced the same thing as their mods failed. Patch 5.01 and 5.02 caused no problems though. At least not for me.
I'm currently working my way through the factions to get the long/very hard victory cheevos for each of them. Each one takes about a day - two at most. It's not too bad. The short campaign victories are doable in an afternoon for most factions.

Honestly I find those as sort of stepping stones as most long campaign victories I find myself doing without even realizing it. Or just... not even doing it at all. Like with kugath you don't even gotta worry about tzeench cause there's a good chance they'll just wipe themselves out.

I find the real end goal is to pretty much take over the map. But it seems whenever I get close, a new update drops and it just kinda blows it all out of the water

I really wish they would just update the pre existing saves along with the game itself.

My Elspeth campaign is fine. Running 15 mods and all are green.
