The faction/race mechanics are a big part of it, so not sure why you would ignore those.
-But we have large differences in the tech trees.
-Differences in lord buff skills (for the Daemonic lords).
-The fact that WoC (with the exception of Be'lakor) can only have 6 gifted units in a army, and i sometimes want full daemon armies, also plays a role.
-Also Kairos is a way better spellcaster lord then Vilitch.
Only problem with the Mono factions is that they are too limted in lord choices, and the ones they have are super boring..
Sorry what?
Chaos has the same mortal lords and heroes as WoC. Two lords and two heroes.
But they also get the daemonic Herald, plus the daemonic hero, plus the Cultist.
Additionally, the Heralds can ascend into the respective Exalted greater daemons, which is usually just the straight up better alternative to the Daemon Princes.
For the non-Khorne factions, you have two different Exalted lords based on their magic lore, so basically even one more lord extra.
Also needs to be said that the daemonic lords and heroes generally have much better traits and skills, in particular the free Blue Horror summons. The Tzeentch guys also get their Disc mount at level 6 already.
Only reason to consider a melee Lord as army leader - having him go red line skills and doing some melee is more efficient overall. Assuming you can afford to bring two heroes for the caster work.
But these two should definitely be daemons. Mortal casters can go steal tech.
I'll just adds that WoC is like " a warband expedition " with a few holds, allowing unique combination like using the lore of nurgle to heal bloodthirsters, while monogod is a map painting and conquering using different main mechanic and with all their improved roster.
I like more playing Nurgle than WoC even from before 5.0
I don't want to start with random, weak units and work them up.
I want to have recruitment buildings for all my units, I want to be able to recruit elite units and better control over what units make up my army right from the recruitment screen.
I am interested in the complete flavour and mechanics of one homogenous chaos god with all it's strength and weaknesses. I am not interested in a hodgepodge of different chaos alignments with no clear direction.
I am interested in mortals and deamons alike and warriors of chaos limits my ability to recruit deamons while chaos warriors (the unit) come in different colors but feel the same.
As far as I am aware there are no heralds, greater deamon lords, deamonic heroes or cultists available to warriors of chaos.
How often do we see this on the forums?
Someone whines and complains about something they don't understand, everyone spends precious time explaining the reality of the situation to them and they never respond...
