It can be good if you get it very early but when you usually obtain it you already have several armies. Having only a single army get stronger is meaningless with so many downsides... It depends on the faction though, the crown gives some good faction wide bonuses but it's still debatable if it's worth it.
I dont understand, my Averlorn Campaigns conquer everyting that is not Asur??
But that phase only lasts 4-6 turns before the crown "levels up" and the penalties become too severe.
So yeah, overall it's not worth the hassle of obtaining it, because it's only useful for a few turns. Really poorly designed/implemented. Hopefully mods can fix it.
When I won the battle and saw the plus and minus I was stocked. Keeping it was not an option, in fact the map wide replenishment was far better.
Sword of Khaine is much better, stronger and the minus are much more balanced making it difficult to choose keeping it or not.
Dwarfs upcoming rebalance with grudge meter is a good opportunity to fix this as well.
Oh and Elspeth was absolutely unstoppable with that thing. The bombardment is like a 2 minute cooldown Doomrocket, and the Mortis Engine effect is absurdly strong.
Granted, that's just for the Empire, it's probably notably worse for other factions.
Gave it up after I was done, and used the replenishment to restock my armies on the go over to Norsca.
