Goblin Hewer?
Is it me or does this not make sense? It's named to be a goblin killing machine, yet it's armour-piercing anti-large? The two things that are complete opposite of goblins. It is supposed to be an ironic name? Are these dawi jokes?

I agree

It should have been an area of effect weapon, gameplay wise. Shooting a hail of low power projectiles over a large area, like an artillery version of blunderbuss.

Making it an artillery with 80 range that tries to snipe fast mobile monsters with 100 axes is just dumb.

Its kinda odd, from the way I remember Great Book of Grudges describe it on youtube he made it sound like it was a super high strength armor piecing death machine.

He basically talked about how he was fighting a dwarf player with the hewer on table top and he got an entire regiment of Temple guards obliterated by the thing due to bad luck so maybe less anti large and more ap rapid fire destruction.

Also keep in mind that lorewise the dwarfs are mostly land locked to their mountain holds on the Karaz Ankor, which means the vast majority of enemies they fight are greenskins and skaven. The way I see it is the goblin hewer is supposed to be more of a horde killer and goblins are more numerous than orks.

A machine that throws high-velocity war axes sounds like it would be both anti-armor and anti-large.

Who doesn't enjoy the thought of goblins being hewed?

Except throwing axes are never anti-large. Look at Norsca for example, javelins are anti-large, axes are general purpose armor piercing.
Honestly I don't get why they made it anti large, dwarfs have SO MANY anti large options already I feel like it should be anti infantry instead.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe the dudes throwing axes probably aren't throwing them as fast and a hard as the machine?

It IS good at hewing goblins - the axes are thrown hard enough to go through several of them. That's also why it is anti-large despite 'normal' axes not being that - this isn't normally thrown axes, after all, and it's more like giant-sized axes than throwing axes.

And yeah, it's effing ridiculous, But it IS a unit Malakai Makaisson made in tabletop warhammer, and this game is a PC version of that.

It'll work against goblins anyway. Watched a video of it being tested on zombies earlier, it pretty much obliterated a unit in two volleys. This thing has no problem spreading the love around across a unit of infantry. In another test it almost deleted a charging Varghulf in the time it took it to cover the range between the two units, the big beastie reached the hewer on something like 10% hp.

This thing will delete anything so long as you can screen it against flankers/flyers/missiles.

It's niche but it gives you the option to A. delete that monster or B. delete that unit. And once your payload is done, you have a group of slayers to toss in and fight with

People are forgetting restock and ammunition increase bonuses and journey's end with this thing

Put them in an Ungrim army with Malakai as a reinforcing lord and a bunch of engineers. You now have a 40 speed artillery piece that can delete anything in two quick volleys with the best fighting crew in the game that won't lose entities if they stay above 50% HP which they will because Malakai can heal them

A full stack is probably completely viable

Hewer? I hardly even know her!

They have 4 ammo, they are greatly outranged by archers (hewer has 80 range), and they have 0 armor. +20% ammo is... still 4 ammo. Possibly 5, depending if they round up. Restock would give 1 extra shot. This is not the doomstack you are looking for.

You might get some mileage out of them, but the first army with a decent amount of archers will hard counter them, I think. Wood elves more so.

Of course, slightly foolish to theorycraft before we've even played the thing. I'll happily agree to wait & see how it goes.

i think its because dwarfs hate goblins especially?
