AI Thorgrim consistently dying to Skarsnik

So I've noticed in the latest patch, the AI Thorgrim is getting absolutely rofl-stomped by Skarsnik in every single campaign if I as a player am not in that area to kill Skarsnik. Is Skarsnik just getting instant Waaagh while Thorgrim is getting debuffs from the broken Age of Reckoning, or what's going on there? Surely it's not by design that THE HIGH KING OF THE DWARVES is being killed off in 10-12 turns every campaign by a damn goblin?

Note that this is just a comment on how the AI is doing vs. other AI, and by no means a complaint about how my own experience as a player is with my factions.

I had the same when I played as Franz. Thorgrim was one of the first LL whos faction was destroyed. Don't know who destroyed him.

Well my point isn't so much that it's a goblin, bad choice of words on my part. The point is more that the legendary high king of all dwarves, is consistently getting stomped in 10-15 turns.

The wahgs have always made orcs dominent in the first 50 turns vs the dwarves. But the age of reckoning might be nerfing the AI dwarves. Especially since Thorgrim has a high AI potential so he usually pulled through on other patches.

Thorgrim did very bad in both my games after the update too. First one being confedederated into Karak Kadrin while he only had 1 or 2 minor settlements left, and the second defeated on turn 12-15. Thought maybe my Skaven, but could be Skarsnik.

I've made it a point to get vision of him through diplomacy in the first 10 turns, and I have now 5 times in a row seen him get wiped by Skarsnik before turn 15. I don't know if it's Skarsnik pulling a turn 5 Waaagh or what it is, but I really feel like it's something that should be looked at as it's kind of a bummer to have the actual leader of a whole race get wiped from the campaign so fast

Its like that because the AI in this game is heavily downgraded and can't deal with Waagh, can't deal with it that early anyways. Should have seen Thorgrim in WH2 lol. Bluetide was a thing to behold.

i agree. i don't strictly mind big factions getting wiped early, especially if its 2 starting next to each other, but it should be a somewhat rare occurence and both should have decent chances to win imho. 1 major faction having an overwhelming advantage vs another at the start reduces the replayability and excitement of seeing which faction rises to the top.

In my current game as Malakai it's definitely a red tide of destruction. That weird vampire faction nw of Middenheim crushed the Empire from one side, Vlad got the other side, and they had a snack on Karl in the middle. Thorgrim got crushed early on. All the Kislev factions got nuked early on, despite me taking Clan Moulder out. High elves got wrecked by N'Kari, who then proceeded to go to town on the Brettonians along with the orcs.

My Malakai is singing "All by Myself" these days. But hey, at least I've managed to crush a lot of the chaos factions finally, including Archaon? Not looking forward to the battles to come though, good lord that will be a lot of enemy armies :o

Dwarf AI needs updated army templates. They could recruit a proper army in 15 turns if they knew how. 9 dwarf warriors and 8 crossbow dwarfs + gyrocopter bomber should do the trick. But dwarfs insist on the old ways and use miners galore.

I really wonder if their AI was properly revised to go with the changes. I mean, Irondrakes are now available from a t2 building. So a minor settlement gives the key to erasing most of what skarsnik can throw for the first like 50 turns.

I’m having a similar experience with my Malakai campaign. Ungrim died after only about 1000 grudges at lvl 9. Thorgrim got up to lvl 19 and 10k grudges but then died to Skarsnik and ogres. Thorek just got wiped out around turn 60ish. The Empire is being gutted by Kemmler all the way up the coast to Norsca and the Brass keep. Kislev proper is doing pretty good actually, Otsankya and Kostlen got wiped but I ended up solving most of their problems for them and serving as a shield. They ended up getting in my way of all things going after Astragoth and claiming land I wanted. Katrin is just kinda sitting around now despite Dryka and Boris is giving and taking against Kolek.

The funny part is this campaign took a weird turn in that everyone wants to be my friend now. Malekith offered me 10k gold to do a trade agreement with him and the vampires keep wanting us to be bros as well. It looks like a challenge picking them off one by one while not triggering all of them coming at me at once ;o

Turn 62 in my current Empire campaign (VH) and Thorgrim is the only AI stronger than me. He owns everything from Gunbad to Crooked Fang without me helping him at all. Belegar was also doing pretty well until the Wood Elves turned on him, so I don't think it's a systematic thing with the dwarf AI. Probably just some variance that leans more towards Skarsnik winning in their conflict.

Never saw skarsnik survive unless I allied with him as a "bad" faction. So no, seems like your RNG acted up
