Gotrek nearly instantly dies?

Is this happening to anyone else? I'm trying to recruit Gotrek and Felix but by the time my *cavalry* reaches them, Gotrek has already taken 95% of his health in damage, the rest of the mission is seemly a dice throw of me trying to predict his AI and throw units at the enemies before he reaches them whilist hoping he doesn't pushes throw my troops and dies.

People like me tried it early, to take advantage of the duo before they're basically obsolete.

You can have an artillery stack by turn 15-ish (especially if you're Elsbeth or Gelt).

I find it hard to believe that he's dying before your CAVALRY reaches him. I've done this quest battle 3 times with Dwarfs already and they obviously don't have cavalry, and Gotrek is still alive and kicking ass by the time my infantry is able to get to him, the trick is keeping him alive in the subsequent waves.

Ive actually had it both ways. Sometimes he will get hit by literally everything and nearly died before my fast units can get to him. Others he will avoid all damage and kill a quarter of the first group himself.

The thing I'm finding difficult about this is that I get my 3 untis of knights of the blood rose in position to defend him but somehow they get deleted in seconds, leaving him unprotected.
