Total War: WARHAMMER III

Total War: WARHAMMER III

Battle maps are shrinking more and more.
Finally migrating from WH2 TW to WH3. I'm shocked at how small the maps are. Had a battle last night where there was literally ZERO room to flank w my cav because the enemy army in a normal formation stretched from one edge of the map to the other. It was a standard "open terrain" map!

I'd be okay with medium graphics and larger battle maps.

Why are the maps getting so damned small compared to earlier iterations of Total War? Furthermore will we EVER see the Battle Maps matching the Campaign map instead of getting and extremely LIMITED number prefabricated maps for every battle?

Because WH3 is the most arcade of arcade TW games.

Can't have large battlemaps where people with short attention span have to wait 5 minutes for battle.

Apparently the arcade kiddies can't be bothered to remap the hotkeys for "speed up" time so it's easily accessible.

FYI, remapping "cycle speed up time" to "T" works like a champ, kiddos.

I'm also noticing that on most deployment areas i can't even fully deploy my infantry without running into deployment area edges, much less add my cavalry to flanks.

WTF happened to big maps in Total War?

They are pretty small in Pharaoh too, can hardly maneuver chariots around to flank without running into something.

Depends on where you are fighting. Some of the maps are exactly the same as in TWWH2.
Some are big, where even pushing your artillery to the front of the deployment, still wont reach the enemy's deployment zone. Others are almost within crossbow range.

The Cathay maps are laughably small and I'm getting the same 2 maps over and over in different regions of Cathay.

Right now I'm in the deployment phase on the same Cathay map I've been fighting on over and over and once again I can't even line up my damned INFANTRY without running out of room on the flanks in standard formations. It's crap. Absolute CRAP and lazy game development.

Also does "hard" Battle mode mean I always attack UP HILL on the same two TINY maps I've been fighting on in Cathay for 3 real world days now?

Absolute garbage.

their engine is incapable of handling that many units on a larger map.

I always advocated for bigger army sizes and larger battles maps. a camera that allows you to zoom out like in supreme commander would have been enough to compensate for the larger size.

but again their engine is old and needs an extensive overhaul which if you have paid attention to recent news, will probably not happen. not even in a decade from now because ca needs to compensate for the 100 mil they smoked on hyenas. what an atrocious name btw

Based on that, there would have never large maps to begin with. But there are still large maps with many armies worth of units in quest battles. Just look at the quest battles of warriors of chaos undivided.
Personally I'm for a variety of maps that changes with every area you're fighting in, but more larger maps generally.

Meanwhile, minor settlment battle maps are gigantic, but filled with tight-maze like paths making them impossible to maneuver.

I have to think the maps were designed and approved by people that don't actually play a lot of Total War. I can't even begin to imagine maps this tiny in Napoleon TW or Empire. Nor could anyone that's played Napoleon or Empire Total War in earnest.

I'm finding the tiny maps I've experienced thus far so incredibly frustrating, because there's literally not enough room to deploy or maneuver, that I'm simply forgoing the battle and having the auto calculation feature play out most battles. I mean half the fun in TW games is pre deployment and coming up with a strategy. The maps in TW3 are so small I have no choice to to push straight ahead because the left and right out of bounds are literally up against my right and left flanks of my INFANTRY formation. Again, NO ROOM FOR CAV on the flanks because it's OUT OF BOUNDS.

This truly is Total Garbage.

Is that why units forget their orders every 5s and units hardly react to commands?

Usually that's something dumb like guard mode accidentally being on in my experience.

those battles are like a game of pacman, but pacman was fun at least.

The AI cant handle even a small map, bigger maps would be a complete disaster
