what benefits does it actually offer over a regular horse?

It doesn't need to be fed, brushed, or stabled?

It is slower so I think the regular horse is better

It doesn't ♥♥♥♥ in the middle of the street.

It satisfies his inner need to bring his steampunk cosplay onto the battlefield

More Armour, slightly better melee stats and more charge bonus. If you don't need the speed to run the engineer with outriders there is little reason to not use it.

Does the mech horse have perfect vigor?

It should if it doesn't.

The Steed might have it but the rider doesn't, and there is only so much being repeatedly bashed with scalding hot metal that a mans crotch can take.

I've heard it said that the Mechanical Horse grants the Engineer 360 firing although I havent tested it myself to be sure.

It has more ammo too. But the normal horse is better because of the faster speed and you can keep running away.

Didn't the mechanical steed give the engineer a 360 degree fire angle?

Have to dig coal out of the ground or make coal the hard way though instead of just letting them loose on a field... Also have to keep repairing them AND change oil. AND you have to scrape off rust all the time (if you arent stabling them)
