Not entirely true although the quest is 100% hard. I've done it as dwarves, with Grombrindal. Got a few slayer units as they're fast, used them to bodyblock while the rest came into position.
They still nearly died, but I managed eventually. It's possible, you just have to put some thought into it, as story quests are usually super easy.
This, is not so hard you just gotta pull your frontline forward let them do the damage
Rocket artillery will do fine to help them because explosives doesn't do much damage to single entity units.
What was this ranged army you speak of? Because I highly doubt it was just missile infantry. If you had a rocket arty doomstack then I can see why it's so easy for you.
Not just that, Elsbeth herself is insane.
I wonder how anyone can do this with a basic sub turn 30 army, and after that getting those heroes at level 1 is more of a liability than an help, so even if I could get them with the AR I gave up, I eventually finished my campaign without them...
You fight against the horrible design much more than against the enemy army, needs a rework definitely
