You have 800 hrs in TW warhammer? Dont want to sound mean, but this is a serious question right?
There are too many factors to really answer that question. What kind of infantry do you have, what is the terrain like, what are the other units in your army, what are the enemy units? Easiest answer is to make a long line (be weary of different types of infantry, anti-large units can be helpful in reserve or on the flanks to counter the enemy's units such as calvary charging your flank or air units going behind your line) and use them to flank and surround the enemy, if you have good range units wait for them to come to you or hit them enough from long range making them come to you, that way your ranged units wears them down, either way surround and flank their army and units.

OK, so what is the issue? Ability to command blocks of troops, locking formations, setting up formations or something else? Not understanding what issue you are having... note that if you are playing legendary or with restrictions in battle then the answer will be different

OK. You know how to select and adjust each unit, command group select and locking groups so they remain in formation? Do you use space bar to check unit positioning and selecting visible info etc? This is important to see where troops are being ordered to and final positions?

If you are unfamiliar with these then it would be helpful to get used to keyboard shortcuts for the game. This will help you greatly. Then you will need a a bit of practice in skirmish mode or a dry run campaign to play about with getting used to the controls. Its easy for me to say it but playing these games for nearly 25 years you kind of get used to doing things instinctively :WH3_greasus_rofl:

i know how to do most of that, what does spacebar do? i might have to see all the keybindings now hehe

I would get a hold of all the keybindings and practice with them.

Spacebar allows you to see the final destination of troop movements to ensure you can set up your battle lines accordingly. It brings up the UI menu too so that you can select the info and details you wan to see or switch when you press spacebar. It is very useful to set up preferences. E.g. you cant see units fighting in a forest, you can configure spacebar to temporarily remove foliage so its easier to see and go back to normal when you release it.

Might as well watch the following video series :

Edit : Note => Those are links to video PLAYLISTS, better open them in Youtube directly to get full content (worst case, look for Zerkovich)

(not only is it funny, but also interesting to watch tbh ~ even if some videos are about TWWH 1/2, still applies generally speaking, no worries)

this may be a stupid question but you used to be able to hover your mouse over spells in the character skill tree but now it doesnt display it, is there a button to press while hovering my mouse over it xD

Hmm... not something i paid much attention too but if you mean the info boxes then this is configurable too in the game options.

Warhammer 3 had an update in which you had an adjustment to these boxes. to have these delay, stick or be instantaneous by playing around with durations and settings etc.

Checker board and squares. Squares turn faster and therefor are easier to react with. Put melee on the outside to flank around once the back line is safe. You just need to use the shield wall to hold units from getting to the archers, and the checker board allows for your other ranged unit to support even if the front line doesnt catch everything. this works with prett much every civ.

OK. But there is no shield wall in Warhammer., stand still and maybe get charge defense.... In Pharaoh you have shield wall, and push, retreat and hold formations. Warhammer is very basic in terms of formations unfortunately.

Checker board is only relevant if you are going to be mobbed and shutting down all of your ranged in melee. Checker board is not suited for all engagements. If one is using that strategy its better to use heroes to bait.

Rank and file has its benefits too depending on purpose. Forming squares make it quicker to turn and less vulnerable to charge attacks with momentum, but you are also vulnerable to artillery and some magic and abilities that have a circular area of effect, forming lines ensures coverage and less vulnerable to artillery, but more vulnerable to charge attacks with momentum magic and abilities with cones and linear areas of effect.
