Do you go for Ushabti or Tomb Scorpions?
I really like Tomb Scorpion models and think they look cool but i have a very hard time trying to justify building them. As both Ushabti and Tomb Scorpions are tier 3 i view it as 1 scorpion vs 2 Ushabti and 1 Ushabti with bows.

It feels like the choice is so obvious unless someone can tell me how a single scorpion can be better or even equal to 2 Ushabti and 1 Ushabti with bows.

Tomb scorpions, like other monstrous units, i think have the goal of crashing through and breaking through enemy lines such as if they are bracing. They are also damn hard to kill and have AOE attacks.

I'm saying this as a newbie so maybe someone else can correct me here, but it's not just unit tiers that matter it's also type of units and how they are used. I'm not sure about Ushabti, they seem to be strong infantry but I don't think they can crash through enemy lines the way the Scorpion does.

I've primarily engaged in skirmish battles rather than delving into the campaign. While they boast an impressive aesthetic, they haven't quite aligned with my preferred playstyle or narrative interests/biases. As for their value relative to the DLC cost, I hadn't initially pondered it, but having the option is always a positive.

Well the Ushabti building can be built in minor settlements whilst the tomb scorpion building can only be built in major ones so my preference is, bring both!

Scorpions are better in my opinion against dense heavy infantry such as dwarfs whilst Ushabti serve better against factions with fewer but more elite heavy infantry

Scorpions are the MVP of the roster. Not listed on the unit card is a secret stat called combat animations. It makes them super tanky and able to jump effortlessly from formation to formation to lock down whatever unit you choose.

That being said, as Da_Higg mentioned, you can bring both

Yes this, i fought as Sigmar cult against a strong AI dune king empire, and the scorpions effortlessly crashed through the lines, aside from Archers, it's hard to even hit it because it constantly is knocking units back.

While with the Ushabti, they are tough guys, but you *can* focus your firepower on them and get rid of them, and melee units can just swarm them and do damage. If you try to swarm beasts, they tend to just do more damage throwing the units back

Tomb Scorpions have really good animations and can be really effective at anti-infantary. I find the melee Ushabti to only really be effective if used with the Dynasty lord that buffs them. Bow Ushabti are pretty good overall but you do get fewer of them and I find they are best used to support other armies for AP on demand whereas the scorpions actually doomstack pretty well.

Your 3 ushabti takes up 3 slots in your 20 slot roster, scorpion takes 1, you have to consider that.

Tomb Scorpions take way to long to actually earn their gold back during battle. But are decently tanky during combat on their own. But their animations can carry them way to deep.

Ushabti however are amazing when you combine them with normal skeletons. Their animations do not make them leap and dance around. They will have around 3 times the dps of the scorpion once melee is being fought. And their added mass (2 Ushabti outmass 1 scorpion) mean that they can trap enemy monsters and cavalry way easier.

The bow variant fire ballista rounds, penetrating many a model against infantry. I believe they even penetrate through 1 cavalry model / monstrous infantry.
As well as being quite decent in melee themselves. (base stats are very similar to the melee ones)

And to top it of, they can fire and destroy castle towers (and walls, not sure) and they do so quite quickly.

Tl:dr Scorpion tankier. Ushabti superior everywhere else.

Because they are a tier IV building not III

Tomb Scorpions attack animations make them very difficult to kill and a great unit to cause disruption.
