Total War: WARHAMMER III

Statistiche:
attacking* enemy routing into the back of a castle while defending
seems like they should route away no towards the defensive points where they will rally and then start capturing points

You may be describing this wrong but it actually sounds like perfectly normal behavior for routing units. They would naturally run away from the fight that routed them.

sure but then they rally and start capturing points deep in the castle/city very annoying, they should run back towards where they start from, they wouldnt naturally run deeper into enemy city if they are losing
panicked people well known for making rational decisions
away from the closest enemy should be the only consideration

Do you mean the routers are the attackers, and they are pushing through behind your lines?

damn lol just read what i posted, sounds confusing. Yes the attackers were attacking a castle I was defending, they lost the fight on the walls and then started routing deep into the back of the castle instead of getting back down the walls and towards their own starting positions. i couldnt spare anyone to chase them because there were still other enemy units on the walls, then after running for a few minutes they rallied like they usually do and just went for the capture points, by that time the situation was better and i could send my hero to chase them away but still, it was a close battle and any closer i couldve probably lost due to that
yea going down ladders isnt a thing they can do
and they didnt capture the gate so using the door wasnt an option
so they didnt really have an option

Yeah that happens, they can rout past your army then decide "hey you know what, i want to fight!" and end up being a nuisence.

That's why i try to have a cavalry unit to chase down since chasing routing enemies and charging is their specialty.

The good news though is unless they capture the central point, their capturing stuff doesn't really matter compared to just beating the army itself. Hell most sieges i'm in as the attacker end because of the defender army routing rather than capturing things.

Also the fact they routed means it should be easy to force them to rout again, and overall aren't really that much of a threat.

Like if you focus on destroying their army and forcing them to rout they will probably end up routing again. Once the entire army routs the captured points don't matter.

I would've just focused the entire army on destroying their army, then sending that entire army after the stragglers (unless they are capturing the center point)

Also routing units are free kills, so you definitely should try to kill them then, it will prevent them from coming back (depends on alot of factors but it's still free kills) and the more the enemy army is destroyed, the more likely it is the rest of the army routs.

Yet another reason among many why defending walls are useless.

NEVER defend the wall.
defending anywhere else would get the same result
its not the defending that makes going down ladders impossible
it simply doesnt exist in the game
as soon as they are over the wall, and dont take a gate, they have no other way out of the city then fleeing trough
doesnt matter where you defend

ps dogs are the best at taking down fleeing enemys
not every faction has dogs, but if you do, they outperform cavalry by a lot

This doesn't make any sense and people aren't this stupid. If someone is running away from 1 bear but can see another bear behind it, they don't run in the direction of the two bears, they run in the direction of their friends with weapons.

Routing units have been allowed to exit enemy gates since Shogun 2.
