The different variants of Furies have their own bonus stats from the start, like extra AP, Barrier etc.(compared to just being "vanilla") and you can then further upgrade them with their correlating skills.
So yes, you can not "super buff" them anymore, but on the other hand, each individual type reach their new "peak" much earlier and can be specialized in earlier for fewer skill points.
So if you want to use the Slaanesh Furies variant for the AP damage they provide, they will get additional AP and some other bonuses, for less investment.
Still, I would have wished he had just kept the undivided Furies.
