so pretty easy to see wich one i prefer
sadly they made the race less and less relevant for people who just wanted immortal empires on a smaller map
so now by pandering to people who would never have been happy anyway its become irrelevant for the people who did like it
I do really like the Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast campaigns on Vortex though. Chaos Dwarfs on Realm is great as well. Based on those campaigns I'd probably say Vortex > Realm. Plus the Vortex map was actually good. I hate the weird twisted map that Realm uses. But yeah, definitely not the base faction campaigns on either!
I think realms was just hated more cause I think the player base prefers Mortal Empires and IE free campaigns where you can roam and do what you want. And ended up kicking up a stink when it was obvious IE wasn't going to be a week/month after release like people told themselves it would be. Get used to eating like a king for a long time and suddenly get mid tier stuff isn't fun.
Have not personally played much Skarbrand but my understanding of it is just keep fighting. More armies, more battles, more blood, more skulls. Don't worry about defending territory or developing a sustainable economy. Just make armies and send them out to fight. If you are fighting enough you should get more than enough income from post battle loot to keep the ball rolling. Also portal hopping with Skarbrand was super beneficial but not sure if it's possible in the current build.
RoC has armies spawning too, but its more predictable, and evenly spread, and they even patched in counterplay with blocking portals. Tzeentch is a bad realm, particularly once you realise there are optimal routes, and the AI cheats it. but the rest are cool, so there are a few minor annoyances, but over all it's cool.
It's biggest problem is it can be optimal to not expand, and only have 1-2 regions, since you can do anything from anywhere, but that's really just saying it's cheesable, if you don't try to cheese it, and try to play normally, while going into the realms, it's pretty fun.
Though, if we're speaking narrative? RoC over vortex by a landslide. But that's a 1 time deal.
ROC you can stay in your home province, and enter the nearest portal. It doesn't demand much from the player. Completion time is very long and boring.
The campaign does not have an appeal.
But it's also totally dependant on which faction I play.
I love lizard vortex campaign, and I love patriarchy RoC campaign.
Tzeentch and deamon prince follow suit.
The point to abandom you main army for many many turns is totaly garbage.
Maximum nonsense
