The Total War evolved a lot since Medieval 2,
You will meet the province system with building slots, diplomacy without agents, and especially RPG elements in Warhammer trilogy (with single unit heroes)
It is definitely worth to pick up, I would suggest to try Warhammer 1, if it is Your "cup of tea"
Warhammer 1 (WH1) is cheapest in sale, has "classic" starter factions - Humans, Orcs, Undead, Dwarfs + Chaos Warriors and Wood Elves in DLC. The Game itself aged very well, multiplle things and factions were later re-worked in WH2 & WH3 (Chaos Wariors, Wood Elves, Dwarfs can forge items in WH2 etc). but it does not mean, that WH1 works bad, the gameplay itself is fine , just some factions are more complex in later games, and that makes it pefect to start
If You want High Elves, they are main race in WH2
People do drama from it
all DLCs add meaningful content to the game and extend it, but is clearly optional - in different words - You do not need any DLCs, the base game(s) itself is fine without DLCs, so You can ignore DLCs
Gameplaywise med 2 is still superior to this game as it is actually a good tw game. TW:W is just a good warhammer game, probably the only one there is which is somewhat decent. However the game never lived up to the promises made by CA, i am talking about part 3 here. At some point most of the community had enough from the excuses and the lackluster handling of it.
At the end of the day, you do the same over and over again and the battles are even worse then in med2. Annoying bugs that have been around for a very longtime such as pathfinding issues etc..
On sale pick up a basegame and see whether you like it, the DLCs add some flavour to it but that is it there are no gameplay improvements or anything of the sort. Get the biggest discount available, try diffrent sellers. 20€ not a cent more.
And the final battle you may want to see if there is a mod making it more fun a challenge.(Like even a mod that just buffs final boss to have more levels or match player lord's level might be worth it.) But it's fun the first time even as is.
I've been playing mostly Immortal Empires campaign and I miss exploring the Realms.
I kinda wish I was you right now as I jumped in midway through warhammer 2 and it gave me tons of time without having to look forward to the next dlc since I had so much content already.
My opinion-get it and enjoy each legendary lord.
CA been neglecting tf out of WH3 for over a year and the only way to show them they need to smarten up is with our wallets.
At this point when it comes to basic gameplay it's still vastly inferior to TW: 3 Kingdoms- and it may never surpass it because of how WH3's built, (massive pile of jank.)
