It is in fact a clown harvest operation. Almost every association is downright wrong and/or intentionally controversial.

Well got to give them credit for Lizardmen and Tomb Kings was half-right and so was Brettonia. Hey 2 out 13 isn't that bad, right?

I got a good chuckle out of this post. OP has my thanks.

I would offer a comment, though. Rather than attempting to draw 1:1 correlations between Warhammer factions and real cultures, I think it would be more profitable to consider Warhammer from a mythic, narrative or psychological point of view. The four principle deities/thoughtforms that are collectively referred to as Chaos, for example, are almost certainly based off the biblical "Four Horsemen" (Revelation 6:1-8). It strikes me as bizarre to simply equate Chaos to Russia as there isn't even any real aesthetic link, such as in the case of Kislev, which is very evidently rooted in Slavic culture and mythology.

Similarly, the High Elves, while clearly derivative of Tolkien's elves (themselves derived from pre-Christian Norse myths, which Tolkien studied extensively), are almost certainly based on Greek Atlantean myths. Herodotus' The Histories might provide some insight. Book 4, chapter 185 is the passage commonly cited as describing Atlantis. I fail to see ANY correlation between the High Elves and the United States.

Dwarves also have their origin in Norse mythology. The poem Voluspa ("The Witch's Prophesy") lists the names of the dwarves. Any fan of either Tolkien or Warhammer will quickly recognize many of these.

Continuing in this theme, Bretonnia is VERY clearly rooted in the Arthurian legends. The Lady in the Lake, the Green Knight, the constant questing for the Grail: not much is left to the imagination here.

Regarding Grand Cathay... well, this name comes straight from archaic maps of Asia. Cathay, Cathai, Chataio, Cataio, Cataia, Kithay and other such names are fairly common sights on late-medieval/early-modern maps.

And that anyone even has to draw a connection between Vlad von Carstein and Vlad the Impaler is ridiculous. Though Heinrich Kemmler is most definitely based on a certain German occultist and war criminal. And I suppose it ISN'T terribly unreasonable to equate the Third Reich to a vampiric death cult obsessed with human sacrifice.

Americans are plenty hedonistic.

We have burning man, have cities like SF, L.A. and NYC, are huge importers of illicit substances with an appetite that sees billions in profits for cartels, invented the internet and made it profitable with porn, and I could go on and on lmfao.

And if you go by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'s statistics, it gets really twisted in red states.

Modern America could be considered more hedonistic from its history in ways, but historically speaking extreme prudes built the power structures in the US.

Even today you see some remnants of that, nudity being considered on par with extreme violence in terms of media ratings systems, similarly with themes of sexuality in general. Just look at the history of the slow decriminalisation of homosexuality in the US.

Slaanesh would have died of boredom living through the creation of the United States.

Or if High Elves vaguely resemble Greece and Greek myth (Atlantis), Morathi being a Dark Elf, potentially representing the fall of Greece and rise of Rome, she could in ways represent a Caligula type character, hence the excessive hedonism and cruelty... Again the references are so loose and history (and myth) is so rich that things can just seem to line up, whether intentional or not.

To me that fits better than Morathi representing French colonies in the Americas, if that's what you mean?

While the dark elves occupy what would be USA/canada, I don't think there is meant to be a cultural inspiration there, the same way there clearly is with most of the others.

It 'could' be commentary of the evils of capitalism or something, but that would have been better achieved with chaos dwarves or something instead. They probably just considered their own culture 'neutral', so thought of it as free space (or wanted to avoid a native american race, which they might have thought was too on the nose, though given pygmies, I doubt they were caring about that) . You'd have to look at the order that all of these were added, maybe there is evidence for some other explanation.

My bet is is dark elves just needed somewhere to live, rather than getting inspiration for the race from where it would live.

I'd agree it's more likely a product of cramming all of these unique races and factions into the rough "earthlike Pangea" when it comes to many aspects of the geography (obviously I could be wrong).

As others and myself have mentioned, the drawing from historical mythology far outweighs any elements of historical accuracy.

Or he could just watch a show that airs/aired on a premium cable channel or streaming service, or a modern American movie.

It does sound like the person took the american prude history to be all encompassing. There absolutely was and is a religious contingent that spear heads that prude life, but there were way more people that were getting down and twisted. They just didn't screech and try to control others.

Mardis Gras started in 1699 lol. We had the wild west FFS. Gang/mafia history goes way back in the USA as well which ran huge prostitution rings and whatnot.
