hahahahaa lmaoo
If you want to play as a different high elf legendary lord, Eltharion has access to a flying cavalry unit called Knights of Tor Gavel. They can also get the job done.
Dreadquake mortars deal too much damage for something that also has a huge aoe snare.
Avoid going infantry heavy and do not engage at range for any reason - the mortar must be meleed asap so it stops firing.
Keep your main army on the move until the mortars stop firing and focus fire them with armor piercing once they are pinned down.
Like others said try to have the upper hand on the campaign map so you can auto resolve.
Any scenario where it gets to shoot at your infantry will cost you too much.
That or keep most of your army back out of range and run a unit of cav back and forth to exhaust it's ammo
It insanely powerful against any high modelcount units. Cav can dodge, but most likely get wrecked if hit, the sloweffect can allows for easy picking if they're already in range of their fireglaives/blunderbusses. Regular sized inf will get slaughtered if hit.
So HE means mostly flyers, lords, heroes, chariots and kittens. Arty will take way too long to try.
You can also send something like an eagle straight at it from the start, just to tie it down for long enough to get your units in range/melee. Sisters of Avalorn tend to melt artillery they can hit pretty quickly.
Auto-Resolve usually causes the loss of a few units, which kinda hurts. Especially if the unit is already at a high rank. My end game army consists of 6x phoenix guard, 10 SOA, 2 dragons and 1 handmaiden. Do you see room for improvement?
It is not easy to keep units out of range. Some maps are just too small. But thanks for reminding me to use forests to hide my units.
I tryed flying around with dragons to exhaust their ammo, but even though the dragons barely take any damage, the mortars start targeting something else after a few shots. And it takes a whole lot of time to completely exhaust their ammo.
A mage is a must have for any faction that can.
