main difference between TW:WH 3 Collection, and the trilogy bundle
assume I know nothing about both Total War and Warhammer

i'm mainly confused on what the main difference between the two bundles are.

the collection has 3 along with some DLCs.

the trilogy has all 3 base games, and from what I read, you need them to get the content for the big game mode, Immortal Empires.

which one would give me a better experience/best bang for buck?
also, any chance someone could explain how DLCs work? like, do the DLCs for the previous games carry over to 3? or what?

side note, while I do know nothing about Total War and Warhammer, I am mainly interested in playing the Skaven

No you only need game 3 for the big game map. All other purchases allows you to play other lords and races on that map,

Yes all DLC carries over to the big map.

Skaven are a powerful but hard race t start with. I would go Grand Cathay for your first game.

so what would be the point of buying the first two titles? aren't they included in 3 already?

does that mean buying the DLCs for the first two titles will bring them over to 3 in general?

THe point of buying the first 2 tittles is to unlock the lords and races.

Warhammer 1
Empire, vampire counts, greenskins, dwarfs, bretonnia.

Warhammer 2
Lizards, skaven, high elves, dark elves

If you want to play as Skaven, you'll need to buy Warhammer 2 as well. And some DLC if you want to play as specific lords and units.

It can indeed be confusing, but one foolproof method to navigate this is by purchasing everything gradually, without feeling rushed. This long or medium term approach avoids the hefty financial and time commitment associated with an impulsive decision. Taking your time to explore what suits your preferences and what fails to pique your interest is an example of consumer power in my debased and wretched opinion.

Since the beginning, I've adopted a patient approach with the franchise. I opt to make purchases during sales or, if a product is labeled as 'premium,' I'll acquire it with the swiftness of an alligator snapping turtle offering a handshake because I pretend the review bombers clenched their claw like appendages in irritation at my purchase (because of course I would announce it). :WH3_nurgling:

Best way to look at it is base game wh3 is what is being updated and currently worked on. Look at what factions/lords/units are in there and what takes your fancy. All wh1/wh2 and its dlc has been integrated to wh3 so if you buy wh3 and own wh2 as well you get access to all those races from both games.
Have a look at wh1/wh2 base game and see what factions you fancy and make an informed decision on what races you like. There's plenty of videos on all the factions and races to get a feel for them too.
If I didn't own everything(apart from shadows of change) I would recommend wh2(as an additional purchase wkth wh3) as it has some of the most iconic factions in the warhammer setting(for me) as I collected 2 of the 4 factions in it for tabletop.
You certainly don't need everything. The AI will have access to everything so you will still get to experience fighting against all that is there, just you will only be able to use what you have purchased.

You don't have to get the base game necessarily. You only need the base game for the OG legendary lords of those races.

No, they're not "included" in the sense that you can play that content just with 3. You can play the combined map and SEE the content that was originally made for the other games but you need to actually buy them to unlock part of that content for your own use.

If you're mainly interested in Skaven. You can get access to their full UNIT roster by buying 3 of the WH2 DLCs (you don't need the base WH2 to buy them) - namely "Prophet and Warlock", "Shadow and Blade", "Twisted and Twilight".
That will give you access to all the skaven content (and parts of other races too) except for the original WH2 launch Skaven legendary lords (Queek and Skrolk)
