I play as Valkia and just tried an exalted demon prince of khorne and he also seem to be worse than the original undivided lord he started as.
I really like Khorne and Slaanesh Daemon Princes though. They get great personal skills and the Slaanesh one's spell selection is fantastic.
EDIT: and while an Undivided lord's Chaos Dragon is great, if I have an army of Marked units I'm going to want them helmed by a similarly Marked lord to take advantage of the Authority I'm stacking on them... and the mounts for Khorne- and Slaanesh- Marked lords are pretty lame.
As to why you might want to do it, it does have some advantages, for example: They gain flight. Two of their lord perks gets replaced (you may prefer the new ones). They (unless they are Khrone) gets a mixed spell tree (again, might be preferable). Assuming you are playing Warriors of Chaos they can get some new more powerful path to glory upgrades that aren't available before becoming a deamon prince.
But it also has disadvantages, for example becoming a large target (So easier to attack with both ranged and melee), its as said a sidegrade rather then a upgrade.
For undivided the dragon mount is often a better choice (in my humble opinion).
Undivided Lords already have flight because of great dragons and the undivided demon prince (which was in my question) only has the lore of fire.
Yea for undivided the dragon is often a better choice. I guess it kinda comes down to the new lord perks and better path of glory upgrades for undivided deamon princes (if that is something you want).
for a side grade they are pretty expensive anyway compared to the free dragon you get once you reach its level requirment
