Most people finish their campaigns by 100-150 turns as they feel they have no further meaningful campaign to do other than painting the map... so the game doesn't start then. That's late campaign.
If you want further difficulty you add the end game crisis in, select the ultimate one so all of the end game crises happen together and have it start at turn 10 if you like. Should be sufficiently challenging enough for you.
So its to fast? that is what your post is implying but after turn 100 the fights are A LOT faster as your lords can instant kill armies and you have nothing but elites, so what do you want? battles to last 10-20 mins? can you imagine how bad that would be when you have to play dozens if not hundreds of them? CA stats already show a huge percent of them are just auto resolved so if a basic fight took 10 mins everyone would just auto resolve everything.
This is a problem and they have said they are going to work on it, but unless you just want the AI to suicide on you its never completely going away. Use heroes or commandments to slow them down
your brother is in the very small minority with that view, the vast majority of campaigns do not reach turn 100 as by that point most of the time its nothing but a faceroll, early-mid game is where all the difficulty is, it is why CA included the end game events and drastically reduced the requirements for a short victory as people were just not finishing their campaigns
1. Ambush is your friend
2. Some province orders slow enemy movment (ie: Kislev).
3. Create a general on the far side of an enemy army and pin the enemy army, then disband
4. Agents can slow down enemies
Every battle is a glass cannon, micro fest.
Empire and Medieval 2 battles lasted for at least 25 mins plus, they were slogs.
Play Lizardmen for awhile and you'll be begging for them to move faster. Play Last Defenders and go grind down 3-4 Tomb King stacks of skelly bois.
The game is over at t100-150 unless you have endgame crisis active or try funny, but horrible ineffecive stuff.
At the start of the game, almost every province has 1-2 factions, which naturally die off as some get bigger.
1. Play Alith Anar
2. Recruit Shadow-walkers.
3, gg well played guise ezgame
