Why are Jade Warriors Halberds so much worse than Peasant Spearman?

I watched one peasant spear route 3 mauraders in a choke point. There were only 14 left and I sent them to fight some trolls and they took 1/4 of its health before routing.

Clearly because Peasant Spearmen wield the most OP weapon in the game, the humble spear.

well that sound like one of the most epic encounter this game can produce, you are truly blessed my good sir

but for real the balance of the game could need some small tweak here and there, its pretty hard to balance all those factions I think
