Future DLC Predictions

No doubt we’re gonna see as much, if not more, post-launch content for W3 as it predecessor.

In total, WH2 had about 9 pieces of paid DLC (not counting the Blood pack) and just as many bits of FLC spread out over six or so years.

Of those nine, two added an entirely new playable race (Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast) while the others added new LLs and factions.

As of now, W3 has four DLCs: Ogre Kingdoms, Champions of Chaos, Blood Pack, and the upcoming Chaos Dwarves.

But what do you expect to see in the future? What do you wish for, or what do you think - logically - will be coming down the road?

Some of my thoughts/assumptions:

- new LLs for Kislev and Cathay, probably new factions for Cathay as well (not sure about new factions for Kislev as they inhabit an already relatively small part of the map).

- new vampire content, possibly fully developed factions with LLs for the Lahmian Sisterhood, Mousillon, and another further east into Cathay.

- “official” LLs for all of/some of the Empire’s Elector Counts. Apparently CA has more or less confirmed that Toddy is coming and that would suggest that Middenheim will be getting some kind of treatment to make them play somewhat differently than Reikland. Maybe he won’t be the only EC in the long run.

- Southern Realms. It would be a blow to the creator(s) of the highly popular Southern Realms mod, but assuming that Chaos Dwarves will not be the ONLY new race/faction group added by DLC, I feel like these factions would be the next likely targets for a hefty multi-LL/faction DLC.


Beyond that…I don’t really know.

There’s a handful of obscure, minor races/factions in the WH lore - especially from its early editions (Amazons, Araby, Norse Dwarves, Albion, etc) but I’m not sure CA will bother with them.

Older factions from WH1 and 2 could use some new content - reworks, units, agents, etc - but how these would be delivered (DLC? Price? FLC?) is anyone’s guess.

And new LLs for existing factions? I’m not sure…who are we missing that would fit the bill for the End Times era that would likely be released in a Lord v Lord pack?

I predict Walach Harkon of the Blood Dragon vampires (Their castle Blood Keep has been on the world map for some time).

I guess looking at the IE map, it would seem to indicate that they have plans to create and release Ind and Kuresh as their landmasses are more or less fully there…but we know thats not a given as WH2’s ME map had an area people claimed to be Chaos Dwarf lands and assumed it meant they were an inevitability for that game.

Ind and Kuresh could certainly bring in some unique factions, LLs, and units. Maybe even introduce the Sea Elves as an Elven faction that favors melee and skirmish/hit and run tactics on the battlefield while having naval/trade strengths on the campaign map.

I could see Nagash debuting as part of some sizeable Undead-focused DLC released around Halloween and maybe include him, Neferata, the Red Duke, and some eastern necromancer/vampire LL (?) all with fleshed out factions to lead.

Thanquol I guess has been all but confirmed, but would he be an LL or a Legendary Hero (FLC)? AFAIK he doesn’t lead a clan and is just an incredibly powerful Grey Seer on the Council of Thirteen operating out of Skavenblight.

For Cathay I think it’s pretty likely we’re gonna get the dragon children and their respective factions: Yuan Bao (Jade, Central), Yin-Yin (Sea, Eastern), and Li Dao (Fire, Southern). Whether they’ll be divided up and sprinkled across three Lord v Lord packs over time or released as a Champions of Chaos type DLC is the uncertainty.

Ogres…I don’t know…is there a demand for more Ogre stuff? I don’t really get the feeling that they’re a popular and highly played race. I’ve had them since release and have not been compelled to play as them even once yet…maybe they’ll get one new LL unless my assumption is wrong and LOTS of people play as/like them.

Cotent for Ogres, Kislev and Cathay makes the most sense so far, since they could use more stuff anyways, are already on the map and available in the RoC campaign - a hard requirement, if the AmA is correct in this.

If they want to add even more Chaos Tamurkhan would be a hot contender. Lorewise he used chaos-units, Beastmen and Chaosdwarf-machinery which could give him a unique mercenary mechanic. His path of ruin also went from the wastes to the Darklands and then to the Empire, placing him smack in the middle of the RoC campaign while synergizing him with the Chorfs.

Of course, it would be even more Chaos then, so it is safe to assume that CA will go to flesh out the order side a bit more instead.

Thanquol has been announced some time ago.

Pretty sure Ind/Kuharesh and Nippon are coming. There is a huge area south to Cathay to be used. CA wouldn't bother to add it, if there were no further plans.

I still hope we are getting VS DLCs. At least some Game 3 factions vs another Gamer 3 factions and some cross game factions.

New LLs and units for Kislev/Cathay are pretty much a certainty. I fully expect the Chaos gods to get new LLs/units too.

Beyond that, I think we'll get Empire stuff at some point. They're the most popular race and CA keep teasing Boris Todbringer, so there's got to be a DLC for them some when, surely? Nagash seems pretty likely too. Wouldn't be surprised if he comes as part of a Champions of Chaos style DLC. Could add some stuff to the Vampire Counts, Tomb Kings and possibly even Vampire Coast while he's the super hybrid faction that has it all.

9-3 =6 i assume 1 more race pack so 5 lord packs.My hopes:
Race pack is gonna be DoW or Southern realms whaever they gonna call it as its only race that did have army list(long time and few editions back ago but still), they are on the map,have named characters in lore,game in few places adresses them as a race, and we are waiting since game 1 with placeholder imperial troops there..
Lord packs this year gonna be 1). kislev vs monogod - babayaga themed 2).cathay vs monogod with monkeyking
in later years of development:
3.Nagash CoC-styled with Neferata &VC rework ,tomb king and Vampire coast getting 1 LL/hero each Red Duke being FLC finally and more
4.Norsca rework.As CA kinda confirmed its coming one day, i would guess it can be paired with Empire to finally do smth with Toddy as they hinted and add new LL to the mosted played race out there.
5.Thanqoul vs Dwarfs makes sence to me as dwarfs need rework and more units and characters,there are still a dwarfs' characters from gotrek&felix books that we need and thanqoul is vilian in that books. So we may get Malakai as engineer LL maybe snorri as LH too?skaven needs thanquol as its fan favorite and would benefit from vermin lords etc. Those 2 races are major enemies and we still didnt see dwarfsvs skaven dlc.

I can’t tell the future but I can tell you is there is an awful lot of framework set up in those db files for teb. An awful lot.
