Peoples Preferred Unit Scale?
I've used Ultra for all warhammer games, and never really considered changing it. I recently changed to normal, and it feels like the units move smoother and just respond better. Ultra feels like most of the time is adjusting the formation.

Curious what others use, and why?

Ultra. Bigger is better.

Large. I feel like it's the most balanced of them. Doesn't make battles such cluster****s so easily, especially during sieges. And also it's more performance friendly.

Ultra. Because thats how I got used to the game and its more satifying to hit the spells.
In game 2 there was no issue with this, but game 3 introduced new sigesmaps and they absolutely dont work for ultra (probably designed with normal unit size in mind).
But I got my ways to work around that so its still highly enjoyable

This is a good point, I am noticing units move much better in sieges as well with normal unit scale.

I personally like Medium. There are not too many units, cavalry and monster unit charges feel very impactful, single target units do not have too much health, etc.

Ultra, with most modded larger or smaller to align with 8th ed. Zombies for example I bumped up to 500 and their base attack to 30 so they actually do something.. kinda. It looks good though.

Ultra or GTFO for me. It's supposed to be war after all, not a little street corner scuffle.

Ultra. Should also be mentioned that game 3 is balanced around ultra (while game 2 was balanced around large).

I love medium.

The armies are large enough to feel a big scale but small enough to avoid large blobs where 60% of the units are standing still during big fights.

Large.

Medium if i had to pick another.

Ultra looks dumb to me when half the troops are doing nothing.

This. Ultra scale balanced pretty well.

My wife told me I could only play at the largest unit size.

Large, because my computer sucks.

Ultra, that’s s the only one I ever played. Only one making sense imo (except if/for oldest PCs ofc)
Even just to give armies some look of impressive sizes it’s necessary, otherwise the immersion in huge battles is limited.
To be fair, it’s already looking a bit short… 3to4k troops per side roughly at best (with TK units or skavens ie, less with others) is a bit limit.
But it makes sense performance wise, and it would be much harder for the players to manage 20k troops during 3D battles.
So present scales of 3D battles are probably the best compromise.
Even if I wouldn’t mind bigger battles sometimes.
But I don’t complain, it’s great nonetheless.
Although ultra size is a necessity imo, less looks just « cheap », I wouldn’t play with lower scales.
