They more-or-less took some liberties with some obscure references in the lore to Bretonnia launching Errantry Wars/Crusades in Lustria.

There’s also some mention in the lore of Bretonnia having once ruled over the Lizardmen in their very early history - before the first coming of Chaos.

You can look at it as Alberic going on Crusade in the New World to bring the Lady’s glory to the savages of Lustria, and expand Bretonnia’s power and influence outside the Realm.

He's there to get exterminated by the lizards. Bretonnians are not very smart.

No doubt The Lady forced her chaos-infused thralls to shuffle and slouch across the waves on some empty errand to Lustria.

Ok i am sorry but no matter who you put in lustria its not gonna be fun.

Lustria is basicly one of the "anti-fun" parts of the map.

How exactly does one “slouch” across something?

Across water? Probably with webbed feet and other mutations all those Brettonians have.

In the case of a Brettonian?

First, the neuron-like cells distributed across its body reach some kind of network consensus. Similar to how neurons behave in a brain but far more distributed and limited. This can be in response to a simple stimulus or more arcane means should warp entities such as The Lady intervene.

These impulses activate valves and pumps throughout the Brettonian's body, causing its reeking, sulfurous ichor to pump throughout. The resulting hydro-static forces cause the limb-like protrusions to move. In those rare cases where this can be adequately coordinated into organized behavior, such as surrendering, fleeing, or running away from danger, the body will move in a particular direction. Usually however only purposeless flailing is the result.

Even when that movement is in a specific direction, its leaves the Brettonian corpus with a slumped posture and loping gait that I have described as "slouching" above.

He finally found someone he trusted enough to run his dukedom in his absence and so could take time to go on his grail quest. Its pretty much a progression from one of the main lore points we have on him. The other being that he has famously harsh standards for the knights of his household.

Markus is close to the most fun I've had in this game.

None because Lorewise he would not even leave Bordeleaux in the first place unless he absolutely has to. Fans just complained that he was boring which he was back in the first and game so its something to provide variety but I honestly am not a big fan of Lustria unless you are playing someone with Underground Path travels.

Ironic that Wulfhart does the same thing. He is nothing more than a murderous gold hungry colonizer like Franz who like the rest of Sigmar's followers are under the delusion that they are the good guys despite so much evidence to the contrary.

He's just some french dude that got lost in the jungle fighting vietcong lizardmen, him and some other LLs got moved out of their lore friendly regions because CA didn't want there to be too many LLs in one area.

If by "delusion" you mean absolute indisputable truth, then yes.

Franz is the good guy, thank you very much.

No, Franz is a ruler with pretty bad tax policies which has led to rebellions in Altdorf that were forced to be put down with lethal force by the Reiksguard, taxed others to the point that they rebelled and willingly joined up with Vampire Counts to also attack Altdorf and most importantly he and the rest of the Empire's handling of Archaon's first invasion was so bad that entire towns seceded to Bretonnia during the quest for the Nemesis Crown.

The Empire's rulers really know how to dig their own graves and get its subjects to rebel against them, hence why at least two obviously French Revolution based events have happened. Its also so bad that it has happened that the Empire's common folk actually have cheered when their lord was killed in battle by an army of Chaos.
