CPU overheating while playing WH3
This is appalling, i can't seem play this game without the risk of burning my CPU. It has been like this since the game's release. No other games do this to my CPU.

I don't think I'm going to play this game anymore.

Any solution to this?

Have you checked if your settings are to high for your PC?

Apart from that I noticed this too. Warhammer 2 was not as draining on my CPU and RAM. WH3 was okay-ish till the last update. 3.0 absolutely destroyed the performance.

I've had some overheat issues, but with GPU. What temps are you getting?

I just fixed it by setting a more aggressive fan curve in MSI Afterburner, and now the temps don't exceed 65 Celsius.

Unfortunately this game has issues with properly utilizing resources, which translate into heat issues. But they can be addressed with some fan controlling software.
Your computer will throttle down and eventually shutdown way before your cpu actually overheats. A solution would be to invest in better cooling. I have a Scythe Mugen Rev 4 and it has server me well for years now. Regular cleaning of your system is crucial

I have a i7 8700k and my PC still struggles with WH3 sometimes. After a turn 100 or so the game just can't handle all the armies and events, especially with end game crisis on highest settings. It is not so much a problem of the players' PCs and more an engine/optimization problem

i got a i5-7400 and performance got a lot better after this patch. End turn times have halved.

No modern CPU is built without failsafes to prevent “burning it”

If does happen, that’s an issue with your hardware/it’s warranty not the game.

Solution? If running like 2k ultra settings etc, I dunno be realistic and turn down graphics, and/or limit your frames to 60fps or something so PC not screaming trying to perform at level it clearly struggles with since launch.

i had a similar problem -
Try the following

TOTAL WAR: WARHAMMER III - KNOWN ISSUES, SOLUTIONS, AND SUPPORT [support.sega.com]

Solution 1: Create a script file to redefine how the CPU runs the game, as follows:

1. Navigate to the game’s Scripts folder. To do this, open an Explorer Window and type the following into the address bar.

For the Steam version: %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\scripts

For the Windows Store or Gamepass version: %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\GDK\scripts

For the Epic Store version: %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\EOS\scripts

2. Right click in the window and select New->Text Document

3. Name this document user.script (or user.script.txt if you have Windows set to show file extensions)

4. Open the user.script file and add the following lines, taking care to include all punctuation and spaces:

HYBRID_CPUS_TREAT_ALL_CORES_UNIFORMLY true;

number_of_threads 5;

5. Save the file and run the game.

This.

Don't mind all the software tricks. You would probably only slow down your system if you don't know what you're doing. And slowing down is what your CPU does anyway. Instead, Consider Reizz's advice and fix your cooling situation (start with your case ventilation - this could already improve your situation by a lot).

If your CPU is too hot, you lack proper cooling.

You haven't said how hot though so....

Worry less, improve your cooling or get a console (but they get hot too :steamsad:)

Yours is overheating? Mine i feel like is not being used properly dunno.. I always see it around 20%.. the bastard.

Unless you have a 7000 series CPU and haven't updated to the latest BIOS to avoid the mobo killed the CPU, it's literally impossible to kill your CPU playing this or any game.

He does have a point. Those games are CPU heavy but CA won't even solve basic bugs so any perfomance improvements are out of reach. I have a Ryzen 5 5600x and it hovers around 68C (stock cooler)in turtorial mission, yeah I got the game last night I can imagine the actual campain will make it even hotter, if not then it's fine

I don't know what my temps are on the CPU and I also have 5600X but with Noctua DH15S cooler and haven't noticed any throttling. The CPU load is relatively low, hovering at around 30%.

thats a hardware issue not an issue with the game, if your cpu is overheating, you may want to check airflow or your fans, as its probably doing it with other games or tasks

It *is* mainly a problem with the system. The game's lack of optimization is only tangentially related to the issue.

Although it is the game's responsibility to make efficient use of the power available to it, it isn't the game's responsibility to make sure your system can dissipate all the power available to it. You built your system, you decided how much power that system would draw at max utilization (whether that power is put to good use or not), you're responsible for ensuring that power doesn't stay inside the system.

Whether you're drawing 500 watts in the most optimized game to achieve great visuals and a great framerate, or 500 watts in the least optimized game to achieve poor visuals and a low framerate, you're drawing 500 watts. If your cooling is only rated to dissipate 400 watts, your system will overheat regardless of the game's optimization.
