They do have increasing stats and bonuses if they are killed in combat though, I forget what it's called but there is a way to increase their base stats like they are level'd up.
But yea, their main perk is that you can put Felix as a front line healer in any of your armies not just with Gotrek and Gotrek doesnt increase supply lines so early game when money is short you can field an extra army without incurring the penalty. It's not much but it's something.
But sure, they won’t win the campaign for you by themselves.
Just a little bonus to your troops that doesn’t cost anything and is lore friendly, that’s all.
Felix only heals characters though. Anyways, CA butchered one of the most iconic characters in the Warhammer universe by not giving him a skill tree - as well as making him temporary. Until things get fixed, I'd recommend this mod:

It's the best Gotrek/Felix mod. As an added bonus, Ulrika automatically comes with Gotrek/Felix when you recruit them.
Yes and in campaign being able to heal characters is a very valuable thing to have. Zhao Ming, and Katarin in the early game do not have access to ANY healing. Katarin eventually gets access to Patriarchs and their healing ability as they level up but Felix is available earlier as another option.
Felix's healing also stacks with Regeneration items which makes him doubly useful to the Dwarfs who don't have access to any other form of healing.
