Settlement trading
Remember when we asked for this because we hate border gore and being forced to go to war with an ally who controls one minor settlement of our entire province? And then the devs added settlement trading but it only works to just sell to the AI for money and they will never absolutely nver give you a settlement even if you offer an insane amount of gold PLUS another settlement so either you or them can complete control of the province? Good thing there are mods I guess but we didn't ask for settlement trade just so we could sell them and make more gold...Its easy enough to make gold. It seems like the negative to diplomacy always caps out at a certain amount defeating the purpose entirely when you have an endless amount of gold to but a settlement that is only giving them 50 gold a turn..

the ais only purpose is to screw you over
they arnt playing their faction
they are just playing your opposition

If anything, the AI should prioritize trading a settlement with an unfavorable climate with a settlement with a climate that favors them, but they seem to ignore the climate mechanic altogether in their preferences. Louen should be leaping for joy when I offer to trade him a temperate port settlement for a mountain settlement, but he's like, "Nope nothing can make me give up my mountain settlement, even though my race doesn't like mountains!"

I have found selling settlements useful sometimes (I don't want it to begin with, it's near someone I'd like to get along with, trade it to them for heaps of cash and some treaties), but overall I do have to agree. The AI is like a dragon with it's settlements and would sooner see it's entire faction go extinct than give up even one minor settlement with a (to them) red climate some times, I swear.

fr though lol...Its so ridiculous that this is what we are given as a response to players wanting to be able to trade settlements without having to declare war on allies because incomplete provinces and tedious border gore...I am using the easy diplomacy mod now. It pretty much makes the AI agree to anything for a small handful of gold... but I am only using it to make settlement trading actually functional and not to cheat out of getting declared war on and stuff...its just annoying to have to use mods for common sense game mechanics.

I was going out of my mind sharing the Cracked Lands with my allied Settra. I had the 3 minor settlements and he had Arkhans' Tower. I offered him a fully upgraded Ka-Sabar which is a much superior settlement plus 200k gold but no thanks. I ended up just giving him all three minor settlements out of frustration...before discovering the diplomacy cheat mods..

Give a region to your ally for free, if you sell it for a price, your ally will be weaker and run out of money

imo the while diplomacy thing is broken. You have to pay thousand for 1 approvement point in offering deals. Yeah try that with a -10 ...

I just use Mods to take/give settlements as to my wishes. I once gave a dwarf all the mountain land since i did not want it at all

They can run out of gold but yes you are right they don't need it. If you offer them a settlement and they pay you try offering another and they might only be able to pay you like 1 gold because they are broke but on the following turn because of their AI cheats they will have another 50k added to their treasury.

Yep another mechanic done poorly. The AI never agree to give you anything with those idiotic diplomacy points. It’s stupid they even refuse trade really
Hieronymous Aug 9, 2023 @ 8:42am
It's not pretty but at least it's a diplomatic tool that let's you do all kinds of interesting things.

This game needs that desperately! I know its "total war not total diplomacy" but there is a strategic map to play on.

just kill them lol
Beje Aug 9, 2023 @ 8:47am
It's not implemented very well, I agree. The AI should definitely prioritize trying to complete a province and factor in climate. You know what, let's take it one step further. The AI should even approach you with a province trade from time to time when it would be favorable for them, rather than trying to throw thousands of gold at it and it won't flinch even 1% on the approval metter.

But it's good enough for multiplayer I guess. I usually play "us against everyone else" kind of campaigns anyway with my buddy/buddies, so we don't really care about anyone else as long as we can trade freely between us.

Just tried this mod and it does what it says...Makes the AI do whatever you want for a small amount of gold. Clearly a game breaking cheat mod but I have alot of self control and will only use it for Border Gore clean up....and possibly forcing stubborn allies to join my wars.

Hence I standard use console mod.

Some sad Cathayan lord declares on me while I'm chilling in the Empire, ♥♥♥♥ you and your friends; peace.

Tzeentch being a ♥♥♥♥ and transferring my settlement to him when he's getting curbstomped by Teclis and Tiktakto? ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥ and give me back my settlement.

There was a mod for 2 if I remember right that would have really benefited from settlement trading. It basically made the AI play more to its faction, where they would get diplomacy penalties to anyone occupying areas that they consider their own (so basically Empire would hate any non-empire faction controlling empire settlements, Dwarves would hate any non-dwarves occupying mountain holds.)

That mod plus trading settlements would have been fantastic. Louen would be thrilled to trade a mountain settlement to the dwarves for Paravon, things like that. It's a shame this isn't in the vanilla AI. It would help make the AI feel more like a faction and less like a bot designed solely to screw you over.
