Vampire blood drinking lore question
Do vampires need to kill when they drink blood or can they just take a "sip" without draining their prey like in V:TM? I know theres a few "good" vampires around, and I read about one of them only feeding on bandits and other "bad" people. I think typically theres urges/hunger that tend to make vampires become "evil" even if they were "good" before being cursed, but if a vampire is able to control themselves they don't really need to feed often to survive.

Vampires in a lot of fantasy settings tend to need to kill those they feed on, or have a risk of spreading the vampire curse, or struggle with basically an addiction so they drink more blood than they need, or some other problem that makes them reviled and dangerous just by existing, and they have all these moral conflicts and etc. Without these, "good" vampires have way less downsides.

Then you have people like Konrad.

The best examples of this would be the Lahmina's who are very experienced at living stealthily among mortals and not drawing unnecessary attention to themselves. Although for most of them you certainly can make the argument that they don't actually care about the humans they live among and its just that they see more value in not killing them.

With the case of the Vampire wanting to feed on and kill only bad people that is definitely Ulrika who for the most part has managed to remain the same person after her transformation and often has to actively fight against her Vampiric urges. It has been a while since I read her books but she definitely was able to drink from people without killing them but the issue if I remember correctly, was that even then she often struggled to pull back once she started drinking and figured it was simpler to focus on bandits and otherwise bad people so she wouldn't have to care so much.

For Vampires in general though as others have mentioned above, it really does depend on the individual how much they change after the transformation. In general though it does become a lot harder for them to become empathetic to other mortals, partly because as a Vampire they need to actively feed on other people to survive but also as they're inherently more fragile and short lived compared to the newly born Vampire.

Vampire are like drug addict, but their drugs are blood, technically they can survive without even consuming blood, but that require a strong will and mental fortitude, most vampire just give in to their desire and the sense of power so they just kill their victims. That said Vlad is a pretty cool guy even if he kill his victims.

Its very much like World of Darkness Vampires but whether a Warhammer Vampire has the self control to not kill who they feed on will really vary depending on the individual.

This is not VTM in that the concept of "subtlety" isn't a byword in Warhammer in general. :P

Yes, there are vampires who are more intelligent than others, in that they know they need to er, "husband" their resources and someone needs to build their castles and do the blacksmithing and polish the windows, etc. There is one who is in the borderlands who has a great PR machine that pretty much noone knows he's a vampire, and at least acts like he's a noble leader.

I don't think it was in regular WHFB, but in (coughs) that OTHER GW fantasy game, there are bestial vampires who are under the illusion that they're still nobles and knights and that they protect the peasants...all while they rib gobbets of flesh off passing victims to wolf down with a nice goblet of...wine.

I don't think it's the hunger only that makes vampires evil; because they're effectively immortal, their reasoning is inscrutable as the longer they exist, the farther they get from the memories of life and all that entails.

Movie suggestion: "Let Me In". The Swedish version is better, but even the US remake isn't bad, and takes the concepts in a slightly off-angle to the book.

I think the longer lived and more powerful vampires only need to drink once every few years. Of course, need and want are two different things.

Lets start with, they must have a stomach? Then what... does it connect to the normal places? Why would they need that?

Perhaps they DON`T have a stomach, just a extra large heart?

Clearly, we need to get ahold of a dead one and do an autopsy... But they are already dead..

This is probably why we don't know more.

I guess, Vampires are all turned Humans? So they all would have started out with the usual equipment, and just don't use it anymore.
