Rank and file troops mid to late game are still good enough to hold a front line and with support from Shades at the rear the enemy will melt fast.
I am currently playing Morathi in campaign single player IE, and although she has a really tough starting location once she has resolved the problems near her; not a lot can stop her. My only issue and its the same no matter what faction I play as is Wood Elves. I really dislike fighting them, due to speed of troops and they can all fire whilst moving.
Build up your black arks and get a lot of shades, shades are one of the hardest hitting ranged units in the entire game. Shades hit so hard even taking a single volley from one of them can cost you half a units health.
That's because legendary does nothing to change combat other then enforce battle realism mode.
Legendary is a campaign difficulty. There is no battle difficulty named legendary.
Heck you can play a legendary campaign but use easy battle difficulty. So maybe its indeed set to easy for ya :D
Uh... you lost? Against AI beastmen? As dark elves?
How?
Does the AI actually manage to play beastmen after more than one battle after the update or something? I guess that must be it. In that case, congratulations.
What army comp did you use?
Also, congratulations, I didn't know DE's had necromancers.
Definitely a skill issue. They're not as strong as in WH2, but Dark Elves are still in the top 10 for strongest races in the game. They have a great economy and Dark Shards/Shades are very cost effective.
No, they're a solid race. They just aren't blatantly OP like WH2.

EDIT: Wait, you already mentioned thread-necromancy. ;b
thanks for the reply, My bad about beastmen it was actually Mother Ostankya, Kislev faction. Yeah so I took out the first 4 bases to control the region ad DE and I was doing pretty good at the combat. Flanking and what not and doing damage spells. But then this Mother takes over a base of mine and I counter attack. I had more units then her but wow the crazy spells and snow leapards and spider just demoloshed me. And it seemed to me that my ranged attacks didn't have the same damage as they did on the dark elves i fought in the beginning. Not sure about a necromancer I had that hot chick sorcerer as my leader. But yeah it probably is just a skill issue with me. Think i'm going to try on easy but pretty fun game so far i did enjoy it. I might just need to find a faction that suits my play style I think. Thanks again for the comments I hope to do better on my next run :)
