Unless there is something different about the coding that makes it much harder than it was or towers mechanic makes the game incompatible with the older ones made from WH2 and the creators just felt it wasn't worth it to update them.
I wouldn't be too pessimistic yet however. Tutorials and guides exist for making WH3 custom maps and the game has only been out for nearly 1.5 years so far. The last update to GCCM came out the same year that Warhammer 2 stopped being developed on by CA (2021), so I would wait it out for now and see if I were you OP.
Community map maps would be great.
