Best mongol faction?
I'm interested in making a campaign with as many archers on horseback as possible. I'm wondering which faction (if any) this would work effectively on in all phases of a campaign.

Many factions have early game missile cav that trail off in effectiveness. I suppose for early part I could anything like chaos warriors, bretonnia, high elves, even cathay. But looking at what lords actually specialize around cavalry, the only conclusion I come to is Orion and late game sisters of thorn and stag knights.

Having never tried this I'm eager to here any input from people who might know which factions or specific lords work best for this.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Kostaltyn. He has buffs for Kossovite Dervishes and horsearchers and provides frenzy to the army.

Sadly, no Hobgoblin Khanate faction, even though they are EXTREMELY justifiable.
Yeah, I definitely would want that. I like them not because it was most likely inspired by Genghis, but it also gives me a hint of a "Conan the Barbarian" universe.

I like them because they are so wicked and backtabbing, even daemons are afraid of them, so it gets comical real quick, even though they are the more serious of the greenskin subtypes.
It just goes to show that greenskins cannot escape the comedy.

But in battle they gotta be brutally cunning-err... Cunningly brutal(?)

Yeah even their combat is kinda funny, at least Goblin Doom divers in the main faction; Flinging off the slingshot with a pointy hat, then (sadly) splat into the biggest monster. They dont care how it gets done, as long as it wuz a good bashin'!

Chaos Dwarf Hobgoblin army is the way to go. Their wolf riders make for decent lancers, and very good archer cavalry. They also have the most Mongolian influenced theme out of all the races (Ungols and their Dervishes are a close second), with whole subfaction being the Hobgoblin Khanate.
Gorduz will make them extraordinarily effective, and you can go further with the Mongol roleplay by pretending Chorfs are your foreign auxiliary forces. The Mongols did use a decent amount of artillery after conquering China, too.

High Elves can do them pretty well with the right Influence traits plus proper skill allocation. Wood Elves too.

Empire, use war wagons artillery if you want to go full on mobility. Their gernade launcher cav are pretty op especially the special state troop ones. You can also get full on armor piercing cav state troops not to mention knights of the sun. If you go with the guy in the south normal empire cav get frenzy and other bonuses.

Woodelves or Darkelves, probably woodis.

If you want a mod;
Bertram and the Survivors of Bergerac. Herrimault Chaussers are good multipurpose horse archer unit - given that they're a tier 3 or 4 unit, they need to be.

Be warned, though.. it'll take awhile before you can use them en masse.

In the spirit of Medieval Total war you want whatever faction will let you turn up with a stack of Ballista

Eltharion the Grim using Ellyrian reaver archers.

Why this combination? High Elf skirmish cavalry is fast. Faster then almost anything in the game. And with Eltharion they will get a buff that regenerates their ammo slowly.

Warhammer should have a mongol like faction. It would be different.

It has several. They never get represented.

The Hobgoblins are pretty much the Warhammer equivalent of the Mongols, but they are not a flesh out faction and more of a foot note that they exist.
