TW2 or TW3?

Hey,

I own TW2, I even tried it for a few hours long ago, but since I didn't have much time to completely master, I abandoned it.
Now I want to play with some turn-base strategy and TW3 is on discount.

Which one do you prefer the most? TW2 or TW3?
How long does it take to play a proper match (approx)?

With the most recent updates I think TW3 is now on a slightly higher level than 2 but it really is up to preference, and a campaign in my experience can take anywhere between 7 hours to a couple days

TWWH3 purely because you get access to immortal empires without owning the other games.

Immortal Empires for warhammer 3 / Mortal empires for warhammer 2 IS arguable the reason to play not the campaigns.

The question is, do you own TW:WH1 as well? If so, then you already have access to Mortal Empires (the combined map from WH1+WH2) and that changes how we discuss this.

If you own only TW:WH2 then WH3 would be the best "bang for your buck" since you instantly get access to the Immortal Empires combined map WH1+WH2+WH3 (the main reason to play these games in the first place to be honest) + you get to play all WH2 races there. Otherwise if you want to play the big combined map using WH2 then you would have to buy WH1 and it's not as worth in my opinion unless you care about those specific old world races more than what WH3 offers (even so, WH3 just gives you a bigger map and more toys to play with).

The only aspect where I consider WH3 is underdeveloped compared to WH2 is the AI and overall polish (makes sense since 2nd game received years of updates). Otherwise WH3 is the superior game in my opinion.

If you own 2, play 2 a bit more.
3 is worth it (on sale) but maybe not if you couldn't get into 2.

Last year would have said WH2 but WH3 is in a solid state right now with DLC to come. You'll get access to immortal empires and yeah, it's definitely worth playing.

I'd say it's ok for atleast a playthrough with one of the factions you like, just like vortex was for game 2. But beyond that, IE all the way.

everyone gets IM now even if you only have game 1

if it was before id say get game 3 however now that you can play IM just having 1 game my suggestion would be to figure out which races you want to play as and get them. id suggest game 2 it seemed over all better. but game 3 is still being worked on so itll get there.

WH2 - feels more complete and compact product. WH3 is more content rich, but there is IMO long way to balance things out /- finish many factions/ races on the same level in terms of gameplay. WH2 is also bug free compared to 3.

+ in fact, WH3 right now has rather serious issues with AI behaviour and overall balance of dofficulty - but these are rather issues for veterans.

That's not true. Immortal Empires (the map) is free for owners of Warhammer 3.

If you own only WH2, you get access just to the Vortex campaign because as a WH2 only owner you also need WH1 for the WH1+WH2 combined map (which was called Mortal Empires back then). That was the system before, that hasn't changed. Things changed only for owners of WH3.

you are right my fault misunderstanding on my side of how the patch was worded.
