Skarbrand ME strategy
How do you play the big red guy? Do you develop several provinces or just one? NAP with Clan Mors or not? Who do you NOT attack? Do you bother defending the homeland at all?

Build an army, run cicles and sack/raze it all.
Capture some capitals and develop secure stuff if you got too much money. Focus on keeping 1 as primary recruitment place.
I dislike bloodhosts (too expensive for what they do) so i usually build a new army once i got like 20k to spare and some settlements nearby or its needed to defend the important province.

Skarbrand alone can kill most stuff.

1) fight as much as possible to level Skarbrand as fast as possible.
2) occupy only capital cities. Raze all minor settlements. And you really only need one to be fully developed. Build up the others later.
3) you can NAP the rats and Beastmen if you want. The rats will help with the stunties and the Beastmen will give you money every few turns.
4) attack everyone, unless you wanna use the rats and beastie boys. Skarbrand has no friends.
5) attacking > defending.

I use bloodhosts when in an area with many settlements, and disband them whenever they wont be able to attack a new settlement their next turn.

Only defend recruitment hubs, but don't go out of your way to do so.

Push push push, and consider everyone around you potential sack/raze victims, you have no friends.

He's pretty much the easiest faction in the game to play, when you think like their Lord. Skarbrand is all about blood, carnage, descruction. Khorne does not make friends.

What people have said so far is good.

I'd say focus a lot on getting Skarbrand's bloodletting level up as much as you can. Particularly while he is your only army. Growth in his settlements is *very* determined by his bloodletting and you'll need plenty of it to get access to his high tier units.

Also be picky on when you use bloodhosts, early game spawn them when you need them to take a fortified settlement. As you tech up focus on techs which give you cheaper bloodhost upkeep, you can get to the point where you pay very little for them and thats where the fun begins and you can start spamming them, and letting bloodhost armies create bloodhost armies.

As people have said, attack is the best defense. Don't be scared to just raze an enemy province which is threatening your own lands without settling it, especially in the very early game where skarbrand might have trouble defending his own lands.

Beastmen and Skaven are easy allies for you, but be careful, your allies might have a nasty habit of poaching the empty ruins you eventually want to occupy using skarbrand's settling mechanic,

To elaborate...

When I played Skarbrand, I found I had the hardest time whenever I started "Kingdom Building" while not being at war.
As soon as I hurled armies at people, it was all good again...

I want to try another game, where I just declare war on anyone who tries to interact with me, and see if it actually makes the game easier to be absolutely mad :D

dont disband them
send them to die
you need to lose so they die, but the more you kill dying the more skulls

I would recommend starting a second army filled with cheap stuff close to capital, find a minor settlement close by and sack every turn to build up second bloodletting stack besides big red. Only protect the capital where all your recruiting buildings will be. Only use skulls on major settlements and don't bother upgrading or building unless you have a lot of spare cash. You will run at deficit almost all the time, plan for that.

Outsides of the start, i never cared about skulls.
Bloodhosts aren't free, 50% upkeep is still plenty. Trading some skulls which you likely have too many for money which you never have too much isn't exactly a good trade.

definitely dont keep them around
but its rare there is nothing to send them to die against
