Tyrion used to be the go-to, I don't know where he stands now.
Valkia is a good option, along with Zhao Ming.

That might depend on if you have the immortal empire campaign! If you only have warhammer 3 right now buying the chaos warriors DLC and playing one of those factions is preferable to having to do the awful chaos campaign objectives.

Empire and Karl Franz used to be good option too, but I think now it just gets dog piled. I guess Volkmar could be good for Empire but he's in the Southlands and part of the "Southlands Royale".

Assuming you have immortal empires for new players I'd say Cathay is a good start if you like playing an order faction. Not too difficult but with plenty of opportunities to expand. Defo would not recommend Empire to beginners anymore.

Hottake.

Whichever faction you find the most interesting to look at. Many factions play completely different then what a "base" faction would play as.

Experiment, you do not need to actually complete a campaign. Play a faction, don't enjoy it. Start a new one. Find that one you click with.

Yeah, they definitely had a hard transition between the two games.

If you only have this game and it's campaign, Cathay is a great faction to get to grips with the general flow of the game without being dogpiled from three directions as soon as you start like Kislev. If you have the full Immortal Empires campaign, Tyrion of the High Elves is another great contender for your first playthrough.

Cathay is pretty straightforward, and you get a nice wall to defend against chaos

I don't think so if someone wanted to start their first campaign as ME morathi they'd likely get their ass whipped and generally coming to a new game with a bad experience is a great way for people to shelve it. Depends on the person.
