yeah, no.
Yeah, unlike LOTR I can see this working, the universe is probabably as massive, if not greater than WH, and obviously the lores of magic can be based on specific decks and styles from years of different editions, so it really could work.
Haven't played it since the 8th edition I think(?) so what I know of it could be very outdated, but it sounds like a great idea I have never considered.
10 Guilds would also not eb enough factions, and their themes would run dry pretty quickly.
Dominaria Total war, with all the pre-woke storylines, and that mix between classical Fantasy and Arcanapunk, would be much better.
There would be a lot of factions, too. Playing as the Sliver Hive would be awsome.
The scientist who became God.
Urza was Rick, before Rick and Morty existed.
"I turned myself into a living weapon, Kharn! Legacy UUUUURZA!"
You would buy Total War: Dominaria.
It would be a perfect setting, for Total War.
However, I think there are two big problems. The first is, as was said, the whole place is a city scape, it's a very varied city, but no big open fields for multiple regiments of troops to line up, and a lot multi story buildings, meaning the landscape wouldn't be a good fit for total war's battles.
The other big problem is simply that (unless it's changed with later lore) there isn't really war on Ravnica. There is fighting, but it's more political or little outbreaks of hostilities. Each of the guilds plays a part in the ecosystem. Why would Boros declare war on Golgari? If they did that, how would they feed everyone? They might arrest individual rogue actors, but a full war? Even if you set it in a world where the guildpact fell apart, at most they'd fight for control, not to wipe out the others entirely.
I don't think the setting is really suited to this type of game. Maybe it's own 4x, with a huge diplomacy focus? or maybe just more of a RPG, or tactics type game.

It happened once, at the end of the original Ravinca block. The problem there though is that when the guilds actually get serious, it looks less like a war, and more like a kaiju battle.
Nephelim invasion was truly a touch of that old MTG crazyness, taht they used to end old sets with.
I miss it when MTG could actually do traditional Fantasy, and not woke propaganda on a game they ran down to a snoozefest, so everyone can win without effort.
