2. I prefer Sorceresses (especially Fire).
3. They have great support abilities in addition to extra recruitment. You can create armies in practically two turns (when doubled up on a recruitment province), the bonuses to income after battles is great, the combat abilities are very useful, and any army in a black ark is dirt cheap, so they make great explorers for POI's.
4. POI's, sacking and looting.
5. Sisters are probably the best front line, but DE don't perform well in this role. Throw your fast moving army at the enemy and kill them before they kill you. They play best when aggressive. Black Guard are not tanks, and are actually meant to take out large units only. Executioners would be a better choice, but they are expensive too. Load up on Darkshards, a few Dreadspears for a meagre front line, and other high damage units like witch elves and sisters, monsters if you can, and fall back on your powerful spell selection.
1) I assume you are referring to missile infantry. Use Darkshards until you have access to Shades, then replace dark shards with them. I don't bother with the corsair hand bows.
2) I use the female dread lord (sword + shield) for defense armies. The sorceress is better in the long term but like all caster lords they are really weak until they have access to better spells.
3) Black arks suck at first because they need to level up, but once they do you can do all your recruiting from them. They also provide replenishment for your land army and can keep a garrison for dirt cheap. Basically you want to get them early and keep them safe while they grow and then have them shadow a land army to buff them.
4) You build the icnome building in basically every territory. If you have the required 50/100/150 or whatever required slaves you get an additional amount of money (about double IIRC). If you continually fight and be aggressive to keep your slave count high your income gets to be ridiculous. On top of that there are several techs and lord skills to booste sacking and post battle income, get those asap.
5) Your main line should be a few dread spears. You can optionally support them with a one or 2 Witch elves/black ark corsairs/Executioners if you want. I don't bother with Sisters or Black gaurd most of time.
Then you want a decent amount of shades or dark shards. These guys will be your damage dealers for the most part.
I like to also have a couple units of Cold one knights since they no longer have stupid Rampage and use them as anti-cav since they are anti-large.
Finally I like to have a couple monstrs like 2 war hydras or a war hydra and medusa.
Also some kind of magic user is borderline required either as a lord or hero, and then also some kind of melee forcused lord or hero to act as a single entity fighter. THis is just my basic army comp that seems to work well.
1) they have like 6 different missile units.
Simplify. Most of them are variants. darkshards-darkshards w/shields-shades
2) I am not sure which lord is good for defense ( leaving them to the region in order to defend ) I like to have at least 1 lord per 2 regions to defend early on since economy cannot handle many armies yet.
??? though best lord is magic caster
3) All i know about black ark is that its a mobile fortress that i can use to reinforce my army at any time from the sea( just gotta make sure its within range)
Recruit using those. Any army can recruit as long as they're in range.
4)I know that to make money i need slaves+gold but not sure how to boost the economy.
Battles and the new slave dicta that gives 1k
5) God... the infantry confuse the hell out of me. Am i supposed to use Sisters of Slaughter as a distraction(thrownaway mob) till the rest of my army arrives? Do i swap my Dreadspears with Blackguards of Naggarond? Do i use Witch Elves or Har Ganeth Executioners?
Honestly your shooting and magic get the kills. Use melee to hold lines
dreadspears-blackguard
Thanks again.
Their artillery is terrible, but still has some use. I wouldn't use more than 1 unless you really need to destroy Towers during a siege...
Because 1 of these bad boys can barely drop a tower and won't have much ammo left to do anything unless you have invested in more ammunitions.
Overall it gets the job done, it is basically a worse Darkshard with more range.
High and dark elf artillery are *ok* early game but quickly become inferior.
I personally don't bother with them.
I would avoid The Insidious line of Morathi until you are familiar with the dark elves and how to build them around Shades.
By going with Tenacious it will give you a nice diplomacy boost and a good upkeep to every unit, that way you will be able to try most unit to see which one you like and the diplomacy will help you survive until you get a good grasp of their mechanics.
Once you are familiar with the dark elves and you actually like the Shades, i recommend going insidious with favourite assets, amazing buff to shades and every shades in armies in the same region, great if you want to work with a double stack of shades.
Depending on enemy corsairs with hand crossbows can kite and kill enemies with little to nothing they can do about it.
Scourgerunner chariots are quite good for messing with the enemy as well as hitting them in the flank when they are distracted, note they got a anti large bonus on their shots.
Bolt throwers are ok.
Strongest lord for defence is likely either a caster or a sword & shield dreadlord, tho if you got walls i guess the crossbow one is good as well.
Black ark's get a good discount on upkeep on units, fill one with a somewhat decent army and raid the coast line, capture slaves, loot gold, and move on.
Return and repeat after some time. Good way to boost your coffers.
2 buildings gets a good boost on income from slaves, theres the docks and i cant recall the name of the second one, but it's obvious if you look at the buildings, it gives like 300 gold on tier 3 +200 for slaves and consumes XX slaves a turn.
Bleak swords are a very solid melee unit after they got buffed, strong unit to start with tho i always like to have a few dreadspears to face up against large targets.
In time i will replace them with Blackguards yes, and a few units of executioners depending on lord, Hag queen will want some Witch elves, Kraken lord will want some corsairs etc.
It's really a well rounded faction that can build for just about anything. Find what you like to play a fool around a little building around that is my advice.
For higher tier infantry, The Sisters of Slaughter are a good frontline unit for flanking based armies. They're fast for an infantry unit and have a surprising amount of staying power in melee. Use them to run in and pin down enemy infantry for flanking fun times. Har Ganeth Executioners and Black Guards are basically 2 sides of the same coin. Executioners are offensive with anti-infantry, Black Guards are defensive with anti-large, both are good in most armies.
Shades are your late game missile troop. They come in 3 variants. A basic shade, a dual-weapon shade with more melee defense, and a great-weapon shade with armor piercing. Shades are decent in melee for ranged troops, which is good because they don't have tons of ammo. They do have the stalk ability, which means despite their poor range, they'll remain hidden until they're ready to fire. In a skirmish, unless you screw up, the shade should always get the first volley.
When it comes to cavalry, most of your options suck and I mean they suck really bad. Dark riders can't beat anything in melee. use them to mop up routing units. If anything get the dark riders with repeater crossbows. They can fulfill the same role as dark riders and they can help by shooting missiles. Cold One Knights are an actual cav unit, but they're slower than normal cav units and they still suck, they just suck less than dark riders. Cold One Dread Knights are your highest tier cavalry unit, and they're the only cavalry unit that's actually pretty good in melee, even if they're still pretty slow for cavalry.
I've heard good things about Dark Elf Chariots. But I hate chariots, so personally I wouldn't know.
Monsters are a staple of most Dark elf armies. You can skip over harpies entirely. They're better than similar units like Chaos Furies, in that they won't literally evaporate upon contact with the enemy... as much. But by the time you can construct the building to recruit them, they're not worth it. Hydras are great for almost any army, they have a fire breath ability and they also have regenerating health. which means they can take lots of punishment. Karibdysses are an armor piercing unit, that's mainly used to take down other big monsters. Black Dragons, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dragon. Do I really need to convince you?
Economy is pretty easy. Recruit Black Arks ASAP all the time. Once they're built up, you'll basically be using them for all of your recruitment needs. Then in your actual cities you can just prioritize money, walls, and boosting your agent cap.
Agents: Death hags suck in combat, they can get a mount that buffs units that turns them into a massive target for missiles, but they're often a must-have in any army because they boost army replenishment. Assassins are terrible in combat, but they're good for campaign actions. Masters are good in combat, not great but good. Finally sorceresses, they're magic users and every army should have at least one magic user.

The tier list is based on WH2, but there are not that many differences with IE.
At least it gives you all the bases for understanding of each unit types, etc. that’s the most important for you now to get use of the DE roster.
You can still check after what are the big differences between the roster in WH3 compared to WH2 if you really want to.
But pretty sure there are not that many, I am sure that tier list video based on wh2 will still be very useful for you now on IE.
Until then use Corsairs + Corsair Handbows + Scourgerunner Chariots with him
What's nice about Black Arks is that they have massive upkeep reduction, so you can keep your elite troops on ice until needed for action. And the Black Arks tend to rank up fast, faster than settlements, so that you can recruit those elite troops
