Why Bretonnia and Louen Leoncoeur is awesome
Started a response in another thread, but I felt this topic was worthy of it's own, and didn't want to hijack.

Anyway, discussion at hand - How good/strong/fun/strategic is Bretonnia and their top lord Louen Leoncoeur? (I've decided it's their top lord, just play along). My opinion, they're #1 in all those big categories.

First, any faction where the main lord is something other than a tank, to me, is very difficult. Louen is VERY tanky. (Response to another thread)

ok, now to answer, why I think Bretonnia is awesome

LORD LOUEN: He is my favorite leader in the game....because as with any main lord, he levels fast, and then in fights that matter the most, I can fly right to their OP wizard, buff up, and take him/her out, and while I get swarmed, I spell casters can AoE spells all around Lueon (the main hero/lord) and buff him up even more to withstand damage. Or, I can use him to quick move around the battlefield (cause, he flys!) and turn the tide of battles not going my team's way. (Pesky dragon dropped in on a melee 1v1 fight? Oh no ya don't). Most importantly, he is tanky, and can sustain the attention of multiple heros/lords/units. I've played main lords that are DPS focused, and, DPS sucks on them...game needs to balance that more. Another topic....

SPELL CASTERS/DAMSELS: There is no fat on these...what I mean by that is, they have the spells that matter. AoE vortex, two different AoEs, a troop buff and a bad guy debuff. Everything you'd want. So many other casters in the game have spells that have very little use. (Speaking mainly of "Heavens" damsels).

PALADINS: What is not to love about this hero? All the things other tanky heros can do from other factions....oh, but he can fly/is really fast. Can wound, assualt...and be a tanky, fast option in battle. #1 hero in the game IMO.

ONLY TWO HEROS: As above, factions with 3 or 4 different heros...ugg, a pain in the ass. They're all the "same" just mix and match abilities....so why do ya need 4? So much easier to manage two hero types who do every important thing heros do. (Hinder replenishment...steal tech...does anyone even use these?)

GREEN KNIGHT: I mean, he's ok, it's unique, but a free hero already leveled? To join a party? Sign me up.

LOCATION: By far my favorite starting location in game. Lots of options. West to take on dark elves? East to help the Empire? North to get rid of pesky northerners, South to expand your empire/solidify your borders? But no major threats in any direction like the empire has everywhere.

UNITS:
FLYING CALVARY: Ahhh, yes, so many armies will with lots of ranged/siege equipment. Would be a shame to drop CALVARY on them so quickly. Attacking a city? Those flying knights can take out towers with ease and move easily from one location to another. They're borderline OP. Oh, and theyre super cool.

Archers are weak, and that sucks. Melee is decent, especially top tier/squires. Ground cavalry is ok, I think ground calvary in the game overall is weak. But all this becomes super bearable due to speed of of heroes/lords/air calvary

Oh, and trebuchets are awesome/fun, but lose effectiveness later in game cause usually 50% of my army can just fly into cities.

Transparent bias....I was drawn to this game because I love D&D. Empire is cool but not a fan of gunpowder. Wood Elves, High Elves are close 2nd/3rds again due to closeness to D&D. Dwarves should be my #1 but is very frustration faction to play....

Nothing is awesome about Bretonnia. They're degenerates who worship Chaos deity. They're physically weak as well as being cowards.

Agreed, Brettonia aged much better than Empire and Dwarfs
Their cav always was amongst the best and in WH3 they're pretty good
I'm having a blast with Répanse as well

I like Bretonnia since their support units in campaign of Dark Omen the game, years ago. Still these little degenerates are very fluffy and nice to play with.

I admit, my first Mortal Emp campaign with Bretonnia is going well, enjoying it, but kinda wanted to experience the "supply lines". How do they work? I guess I could youtube it
Sleviron Sep 14, 2022 @ 6:08am
supply lines add a % extra amount of upkeep to all units per lord/army you have. bret dont have to deal with that ♥♥♥♥, so you can field more armies
Jack Greedy Sep 14, 2022 @ 6:08am
Supply lines mechanics just add more upkeep the more armies you field sire.

Yep and btw in WH3 the penalty is much lower than in WH2, so the bretonnian advantage is really reduced
Yet it's a small boost to income, but otoh Bretonnia has caps and huge penalties to upkeep if fielding too many infantry or high level cav with lords lacking the corresponding vow
Otoh they really benefit from allied troops as those won't count against their caps

Imo Brettonia definitely looks better in WH3 if for no other reason than the new sieges really favor mobility/maneuverability, and you'll be fighting sieges far more often in this game than in WH2.

edited for grammar

Brettonia are excellent, blessed field trebs are excellent artillery and when I play order, I always get some off my Brettonian allies.
