I really don't get the reasoning behind battle realism, as it doesn't actually bring anything useful to the table. It feels like it makes things more frustrating for the sake of being frustrating.
also I don't really understand what makes it "realistic"... whats realistic about watching dinosaurs fight demons, and commanding the battle from 2000 feat in the air? lol.
I wouldn't mind if CA allowed us to play on legendary without battle realism enabled, but I did find a mod that allows you to do so. So that's what I've been using.

Thank you so much dude. I whish I had known about this mod earlier.
Edit: Also yes, Ironman is the top allure of playing Leg over VH. A simple "ironman" feature could even make lower diffs fun, potentially.
Edit: Had to add, of course being unable to pause / slow down and give orders does in fact make the game harder. Hard doesn´t mean = "like playing a GM in chess!".
Other than that it's great though.
It's not. It just penalizes the player and buffs it's own units to give advantage to the AI. It's already difficult to manage really big battles with all the abilities so removing those tools just makes the game more annoying. There's no special achievement for Legendary (As far as I know) and there is a good possibility your save could get corrupted so considering the massive investment of time with these games playing that way doesn't make sense to me. If people want to be masochists that's fine though.
In the historical titles modders typically made battles more "realistic" by making them longer (Lowering hit chance etc...) so you're guys actually slug it out for a while before breaking. Med 2 was like this by default and units would typically only rout quickly when charged by cav in the rear.
"I only play on the hardest difficulty, don't you know?", also has 20 mods that make the game easier*
