Not as hard as they used to. Sisters of Averlorn got a nice buff against them when magic resistance was changed to spell resistance.
Once you get 120 oathgold you can cheese it to infinite ammounts of oathgold and items.
Craft 4 of the weapons for 30 each
fuse two together, same for the other 2
now u have 2 green items, if they are different types, dismantle them in the forge for 60 each, theres your 120 back and u try again
when you get 2 the same type, like say 2 green talismans, fuse them and you'll get 1 blue item
this can then be dismantled for 130 oathgold = 10 profit
Once you get up 300 oathgold you can craft 10 weapons a time, guaranteeing you at least 1 blue item every cycle, usually more. Uptil then sometimes you have to keep forging and dismantling for no benefit if you dont get matching items.

Not even anymore. The combat modifiers for VH got sliced in half in TWIII, so melee infantry is perfectly viable.
Just cheat. Saves you the ~10min to reroll items.
Yeah, I liked the challenge, but hated how it affected the playstyle of many factions. Not sure if the ranged/monster meta has changed at all, but melee infantry is definitely viable now, finally.
If you know you're going to be fighting elves, it's also worth kitting out your characters with some Forge items that give missile resistance, especially the one that gives aoe missile resistance. Top that up with runesmith buffs and you can tank a lot of the damage.
