Battle ended in "Draw"
When I (skaven) attacked a settlement (greenskins) I did some damage then retreated my army. The game said it ended in a draw instead of a defeat. What are the conditions for it being a draw? I though it only occure when the maximum battletime is set and runs out.

If a siege army attacks a settlement but you retreat them manually during the battle the result is a "draw".
It also does not break the siege. Its basically a broken off assault.

I don't have an answer for you, but I've seen that like twice in 20 years of playing TW- and I think that was in 3K.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Hmm so whats stopping you from using up your artillery or a caster and breaking off and attacking again, just bombing units from safety and next turn again with your ammo back

Nothing i guess? Just another cheese tactic.
Its not like there arent a few dozen others in the game.
But in Warhammer 3 this gets already simulated by the siege attrition damage the enemy army gets.
So i dont know if its much more useful then just continuing the siege.

Towers, although yeah you could hypothetically do that in some situations

After I retreated, my army still sieged the settlement but i couldn't attack it in the same turn again. I had to lift the siege and then attack it again. I took no additional attrition so it would be a chees tactic for sure :)

It used to be quite a common thing in the older TWs but I assumed it wasn't possible now due to the changes they had made. Before it was used on a siege map where the besiegers lost any means of breaking in to a city, Either through all their rams/siege towers being lost or when the besieged army sallied out before any siege engine has been built but failed to beat the besiegers (since this battles still used the siege map, but with the ones inside the walls being considered the attackers).
