CPU temps spiking?
I'm having a problem with my CPU temps hitting a bit of a cieling (at least for my comfort), and I'm barely doing anything... Right as soon as I start the game up, my cpu fans kick in to high gear and my temp goes to 75-80.. once i'm in game, my cpu temps are coming in around 85 or so, and with the gpu spitting out heat (i've restricted it to 60fps) I'm getting temps up to 90...

I have a i9-12900k with a noctua nh-d15, so it's a good cooler and good cpu... i just can't see why the temps would spike to like 75 on the main menu.. i typically am idling around 40-45 right now.

This is the only game that does this.

any help, ideas ( or sympathy XD ) are appreciated.

Edit: after doing it, the only thing you'll hear is your GPU.

I don't know exactly, but I use an adjusted profile on my graphics card that turns all the fans on at lower temperatures, so they don't reach a boiling point. In the winter time I switch it back, and use the computer as a heater.

haha that is exactly not what I'm asking for XD but I appreciate the mental image of you using your computer as a heater, haha!

I'm talking about CPU temps.. They spike to 75C immediately on launching the game, from like 40/45... doesn't seem normal to me, so I'm hesitating to play the game at all right now.

12900k is a hot CPU.
It's a demanding CPU game.
That's just how it'll be unless you upgrade the cooler and/or increase yours cases airflow.
(Depends entirely on what you have)

If your under a 100 I wouldn't worry to much, well within spec.
You will thermal throttle before any damage is done.

my i5 11400f does not even heat up to 50 degrees, but the 3060 heats up from 50 to 70 as soon as I open the character menu and cools down to 50 as soon as I close the menu

Warhammer 3 is still a partially optimized game, and as I understand it, in an unfortunate set of circumstances, it kills your computer in an unexpected way

I have also a "hot" CPU Ryzen 5800X. Have the same problem like you. I've set a max cpu limit in windows at 80%. It locks the max clock speed at 3,00GHZ instead of 4,4GHZ, that helps a little bit on hot days to keep it cool, but still got enogh power for most the of the games with max temp between 50C - 55C. TWW (not only 3) ignores the max temp setting and boost to 4,4GHZ constantly all the time, but CPU usage is maybe round about 10 - 15%. The constant max clock speed brings up the temp between 65C-70C. To mention I've already undervolted the cpu. Otherwise it would go up to 70-80c.

You could use eco mode or just tinker PPT, TDC and EDC values. You could also use a negative boost offset. Your 5800X should boost to 4.85 GHz in single core scenarios and around 4.5 in all core scenarios. If you lower PPT to 105 and TDC to 70 this should have a similar effect but won't hamper with the CPUs through windows shenanigans (you would get better temps and better performance than what you did there).

He won't kill a CPU with a video game (you could run that cpu at 100 degrees for over 20 years...). Only thing that could die is if he bought a really cheap motherboard and that one gets extremely hot too, or other hardware components not build for those higher wattage CPUs.

The fact that your GPU heats up is also a good sign, that means the game uses your hardware ! In fact you want your GPU at 99% (with a reasonable targeted fps value depending of what is reasonable with the GPU one got).

I wouldn't worry much. Your CPU has all the feature necessary to protect itself. Just make sure that your cooler is properly mounted and that everything is running "within specification" (no errors on your side, like forgetting to put thermal paste between cooler and CPU, or something like that).

Better airflow, better case, better CPU cooler might keep the temps more in check. Those parts of yours are rather power hungry.

pull the glass pane off when playing intensive gaming, that's what I've had to do, I got a Ryzen 7 5800x paired with a RTX 2060 OC Edition (12GB), and before I learnt to take the glass pane off, once I touched the case near my AIO cooling and it was so hurt it almost burnt me, so I take off the glass pane and now I have beautiful airflow and a cool CPU.

the problem is how quickly an open system unit gathers dust

If you haven't already, limit your FPS to 60 via either Nvidia (or amd equivalent) or turn on V sync if your refresh rate isnt too high.

Keeps GPU temps down and I'm assuming it might help with the CPU side too

Solution: Cap the Max FPS to 30-40 on the program of your Graphic card. It worked for me.

This will help to lower the temp of GPU. The CPU doesn't care about the setting.

Liquid cooling is cheap and easy to install

Similar story here. The game is madly sucking resources even when you do nothing. Denuvo is also helping i guess
