According to the lore, what happens after The End Times?
I googled around and I'm not sure but from what I can gather, the Chaos destroy every settlement in the world. But does that mean every race has gone extinct and never comes back?

I liked how in the first game it was more like that and all Chaos armies that appear in the game would keep respawning until you killed Archaeon. Then in the second game the developers permanently switched that off rather than let you choose how to play so basically the Chaos constantly get weaker every turn no matter what you do because they cant recruit new armies. Seems unfair to that faction whereas in the first game, the Chaos could "recruit" about 10 new armies though they tended to be weaker than your armies so you could auto resolve.

If you destroyed all Chaos forces except Archaeon, it would trigger this event:

The Doom Tide

The Chaos horde has poured in, a remorseless tide scouring all in its path. Yet even the most savage flood must eventually recede, leaving battered survivors to pick through the flotsam on ravaged shores. "We are saved!" they cry, heedless of the fact that tides are certain in one respect: they will always rise again.

The Old World has survived the onslaught, yet now another wave rolls forth from the accursed Chaos Wastes.

(sounds hard but it was fun having all races forced to like each other in order for their survival in The End Times)

Age of Sigmar happens

The entire Warhammer fantasy world is destroyed.

The age of sigmar world is created in its place and battle continues.

If you mean the actual official end times then the world was destroyed kinda and remade into Age of Sigmar... again kinda. It's a painful excuse so GW can copyright everything (turns out elves aren't copyrightable) but what're you gonna do.

I think the world is destroyed and then it goes into age of sigmar. Also 40k and warhammer fantasy/age of sigmar are not connected in any way.

What happens after The End Times?

Something incredibly terrible and heretical to the point that many old Warhammer hands spontaneously turned into Chaos Sp-... those things.

It wasn't 40K, that's a whole different universe... but might have been better if it had been.

The winds of magic imbues a number of characters with godhood. Sigmar actually is a god and creates a new world with the help of his 'mentor' the astral? celestial? dragon, that is more like mini-dimensions connected by portals - an infinite number existing at all times at the same time. Three alliances fight over this mess, forever.

For my part it's fairly difficult to relate to or get excited over. But the world is very much ended after the end times. It's kind of in the name.

Sure, sure...let me just tell the chaos gods to stop playing their fantasy game and get back to defeating humanity.

...Wait a minute what am I saying?

but how is the age of sigmar any different? Is it just like saying after the Medieval age there is the Renaissance?

Falaris summarised it pretty well. Not really. It's a different world just with some characters left over from Warhammer. I guess it's like if they blew up the planet Earth in the medieval period and moved to Mars with some notable historical characters... also Mars isn't a planet anymore but a collection of portals. I struggled with that analogy.

Nope, the world goes kablooie along with the vortex. It's ended. The world is dead, dave. Everybody's dead, dave.

Look into Age of Sigmar lore on youtube.

Age of Sigmar is what happens after the end times. While many do not like AOS, to be fair the AOS lore has really become quite interesting at this point now that a lot more has been written. Overall, old world exploded, new worlds are formed which act like Norse mythology realms (-ish). Old races mostly survive via various methods (Lizardmen hop on spaceships, Aelves are rescued by the brothers, Sigmar rides core of warhammer world through space and gets rescued by space dragon, etc.). Time passes, wars pass and the realms are once again mostly taken over by Chaos. Sigmar retreats and seals off his realm and makes space marines ... er... Stormcast Eternals from the fallen so that his army too can never really die. Forces of Order then launch massive attack and make footholds across realms. Years pass and cities are built and empires are formed. Also one very stubborn crazy slayer dwarf pops out of the realm of chaos and is still failing to die. Overall, a lot of the same faces are around and a lot of new story is there.

People just do not like that GW abrobtly destroyed the warhammer world and then changed from "earth" fantisy where you had france ... er bretonia vs germany er.. the empire, to free cities vs sea aelves vs stormcast, etc. and the maps are so big that the territories do not mean as much overall. The entire old world can fit several times over in each of these realms.

While I too started off not liking the AOS lore, I have grown to enjoy it and overall it has many many more supporters than Warhammer Fantasy ever did (by sales data). So while people argue that no one likes it, sales data easily shows that people really do like it quite a lot. Sales went from overall a large loss for GW to now making roughly the same as 40k which is a few orders of magnitude of sales growth after the change.

so basically the End Times is game over and the next title is a new map? I know that's simplifying but if you were trying to explain to your mum would you say that?
