Will Cathay be corrected to fit into the dark fantasy of Warhammer?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr-60IKJjkc

This guy had a pretty good summary of the problem with Cathay at this moment (and also keeping me hesitant from buying WH3).

His suggestion about the wall being filled with the dead bodies of the workers (based off the construction of the great wall of china) being more haunting or being maintained by some other grimdark twist the "good"/"order" Warhammer factions are known for would be very intriguing. Atm Cathay looks like how Tau was when it was initially released in 40K (it eventually got corrected).

Does anyone think this will happen with Cathay???

The thing about YTers is they live and die for clicks. The best streamers know how to generate outrage clicks. It's just business.

Cathay is fine. And it's best to be skeptical of what you see on YT.

They're literally a race of dragon lords that have brainwashed and indoctrinated a group of humans to throw their lives away for them on a battlefield. All the while, they sit there like "I demand respect," and "You have the honor of service."

They use bright aesthetics and have a seemingly utopian, harmonious society, but it's all to hide the fact that it's dragons convincing humans they deserve worship and then enslaving them. It's basically just dragon Tau, but with indoctrination rather than pheromones or whatever.

I really don't see the issue.

Ye it's the Tau. They even spout rubbish about "teh greiter gud!"

Exactly, and as they were described in lore. They were not only doing well, but far surpassed the Empire in size and power.

“Grimdark” is just a contraction of the phrase “In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war” as the tagline for Warhammer 40k.

It has functionally no meaning other than a bunch of edgelords assigning it to every setting with a bleak outlook and lots of people doing morally reprehensible ♥♥♥♥, even when it has no place.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles was never, at any point, described to be “grimdark”. It was a bleak setting because the periods of time represented by the tabletop games and books were always times of strife and war…because those are the time periods where tabletop miniatures being sold made sense. The P&P RPG version that was effectively a competitor to D&D was as bleak as the GM wanted it to be, which could be at the core of the end times or it could be a high fantasy romp about hope and love and good triumphing over evil. Warhammer Fantasy at most could be described as Dark Fantasy specifically during the End Times setting, but even then that’s only sometimes. The majority of it was as high fantasy as Forgotten Realms was.

Anybody who comes in to Warhammer Fantasy whining about how Cathay or whatever isn’t “grimdark enough” is a 40k obsessed edgelord that lost the ability to separate the two IPs and their settings.
Dude the RPG and books were always pretty bleak. Uh what books are you referencing?
Like even Gortek and Felix is very grim in many respects and that is a much more mellow burn.

If the word has any worth, and it does colloquially. It is perfect to describe the Warhammer Fantasy Battle's world.

After the HUGE sucess of 40K, Warhammer Fantasy, which WAS ALREADY VERY DARK, became even Darker, because that is what the audience wanted. Warhammer has always been pitch black, all races and factions are extremists of some sort.

They are all absolutist extremists, which is a big part of why the setting was always dark and grim.

Kinda like the Ethereals in that completely unrelated setting.

pretty much honestly XD

No one wants to live in a utopia. Maybe stick to Disney quotes, you might understand them.

Imagine trying to actually get someone to believe that the word 'utopia' was used in a negative context in a quote describing fascism. Your denial of reality is not my problem. Please seek professional help for your delusions.

I'm not! it's self-evident

The only "self evident" thing around here is how much of an unnecessary edge lord you are 🤷‍♂️

BTW here is what Cathay was according to Old Lore:

Grand Cathay
Greatest of the empires of the east is Grand Cathay, a massive
sprawling land encompassing tall mountains, verdant plains
and thick forests. It is a mighty empire made of many
provinces, each ruled by a powerful warlord, over all of which
the Divine Emperor rules.

It is also a land constantly at war,
with the provincial warlords clashing across their borders as
they vie for the Emperor’s favour. For all its size and strength
however, Cathay remains much of a mystery to the scholars of
the Empire, even those that have travelled there only having a
vague idea as to its extent and power.

A wonder of Grand Cathay is Weijin, the Seat of the Dragon
Throne and capital of the empire. Reputed to be the greatest city
in the world, it is home to such wonders as the Paradise Gardens,
the Temple of the Two Moons and the mystical River of Souls,
said to allow passage to the underworld.

So they have their problems, but it's also just described as this mythical and bright land.

If you have even a basic grasp of human psychology, which you don't, you would understand why. Just like with Communism, it's perfect as long as there are no people involved.

But hey, keep repeating Tweets of cool people and e-celebrities.

"A perfect socity" will never exist until you replace living, thinking, finite beings with robots. That is just a fact.

Well, I guess. My issue (with com.) was that everyone builds all this capital and give it to a group of humans expecting them to parcel the wealth of production out equally. Though a robot has to be made by a human and they can make a robot favor variables.

Oh my....it's muh "grim dark warhammer fantasy" argument again.

So will High Elves be corrected to fit into the "dark fantasy of Warhammer"? High Elves don't seem to be "grim dark" to me. If high elves will be corrected, I'm sure Cathay will be, too.
Oh wait, when does GW claim warhammer fantasy must be dark or grim dark?
I thought Warhammer Fantasy and WH 40K are different subjects.
