It would be quite a jump, there's plenty of cheap RTS games out there you could play around see if you like genre itself.
The stories between the three games have very little to do with each other. 1 was about A chaos invasion, 2 had a giant magic vortex that everyone hated, and 3, this game has a dying bear god and more chaos invasions. Plus the Chinese.
BUT
blizzard rts always have basically the same storyline since starcraft 1.
in the end all fractions unite and fight a greater evil like "the old gods"...
shoutout to chris metzen btw who used this formula until he quit in 2016.
rofl
i am very curious if this game has this storyline as well. since there will never be a starcraft 3 i must look out for new games like this one as well. qq
There's a steep learning curve, but its a rewarding payoff.
Edit: Stronghold Crusader 1/Stronghold 2 are fun too. Man, some good memories from those games.
Amen to that. Just reload as much as you need to and it feels good. I too have never played a game like this, honestly if you wanted to try this game for cheap, game pass for a month and see if you like it.
No and No.
I dont see why you cant start with this one. Just remember any new type of game to you have some learn curve. And if you are in to Single player game, then what is the harm in trying something new. Now MP(in alot game, for me at least) is more depressing and I choose very carefully what I play :) My last SC2 MP match almost made me cry like baby, such bad 4sskicking... XD
PS.if you mean buying the game or not. Steam have 2h return policy and the game is on gamepass too, so if you are not sure, then I hope you would at least try. Its good game.

Ive played many co op Mortal Empire campaigns with my brother and it was worth every cent.
There is a vast amount to these games, so have fun, and don't worry, you -will- get wiped out a lot at the beginning.
Each Faction plays very differently, and takes time to learn to play optimally but each gives (often) a starter battle to ease you in, and a set of missions you can take or ignore, or take when you are ready (if not timed).
I have just played a little of this (3) , and it works ok so far on my machine, but I have very little idea as to the faction specifics, like I said before, each faction plays very differently. The factions in 3 are completely different to 1 and 2.
This game is the latest, and probably will be (if not is now) the greatest, but 1 or 2 are fantastic as well, and if on sale would allow you to dip your feet in the water.
It isn't that difficult once you get to know it,
Ps play on easy/easy, and fight battles at very slow, and pause frequently.
Look carefully at the statistics melee attack / defence, and armour, armour piercing, and shields are things to look for to start.
watch the videos to learn to play, there are loads on youtube.
This is one of my favourite series, and each race has many many hours of play in it.
Now, the question is probably, would you get more mileage out of starting to play warhammer 2 instead of 3? Warhammer 2 has six years of updates, tons of free content, tons of DLC's. Combined with Warhammer 1 there's even more. But sometimes, there being a new game in the series will prey on your mind and not give you rest until you play that.
I would say that, warhammer 2 is the better experience right now; I've put 3000 hours into it and had fun most of the time. If you get tired of it, WH3 is a good next step.
Also note that there's this thing called mortal empires.
The game has a DLC which combines maps from each of the first two games into a grand campaign, called Mortal Empires, IF you have both WH1 and 2. The corresponding version for WH3, tentatively called immortal empires, would combine the map from 1, 2 and 3 into one humongous map - but it's not out yet. That's one thing everyone is waiting for, and possibly the best reason to play WH2(+1) but ti's starting to be a bit of an investment to buy 2-3 games + dlc.
If you'll only buy one game, I think it's probably better to get WH3. If you want the whole deal, get the whole deal.
Story-wise, they're all somewhat unconnected. It's all some excuse to go to war with each other. This is 'total war' not 'civilization'. Subtle difference there that is reflected in the game. ;) (Although you can do diplomacy, it's never a reliable way to victory, only strategic advantages).
